Travis Stanton, strategic director at Storylink Creative and former editor-in-chief of Exhibitor magazine, is pleased to announce the launch of the Experiential Design Authority, which will oversee a series of awards and recognition programs celebrating excellence in experiential design. With the support of a domestic advisory board of more than a dozen industry leaders, as well as an emerging international board of representatives from nearly 30 countries, the Experience Design Bureau is committed to providing a competition that is fully transparent, fair, low-cost, and completely objective. To highlight the best work in experiential design from around the world, while contributing to the education of the next generation of designers.

The Experience Design Authority will focus on all forms of experience design, including exhibitions, events, expos, and other experiential spaces (e.g. retail stores, brand activations, museums, etc.). The organization is committed to ensuring that the most inspiring and valuable work is highlighted, regardless of its origin. Standard practices from the Experience Design Authority aim to ensure equity in representation and open up ongoing feedback loops to encourage continued growth among participants. Entry fees will be approximately 30% lower than comparable projects, and judges’ scores (and feedback where applicable) will be provided to all entrants to ensure transparency and provide key takeaways. Judges will be asked to fill out an affidavit regarding potential conflicts of interest and fairness assessments, and they will be randomly selected from qualified, vetted panel members. No individual judge will serve on the same jury for consecutive years, and the highest and lowest scores for each entry will be removed to further ensure objectivity and fairness.
In addition, proceeds from competition entry fees will help enhance educational opportunities and engagement for new designers and non-profit entities. Funds will be used to create student design competitions, provide scholarships to aspiring designers, and provide grants to cover housing and other expenses incurred by college students completing summer internships at exhibition halls and experiential institutions. The Experience Design Bureau also works with industry associations to provide free entries to members, ensuring the best and broadest representation of what the industry has to offer.
