Jason Bolton Tesla crash: Tesla and engineer Ashok Elluswamy

Wrongful death lawsuit claims Tesla Model 3 driver died due to defective Autopilot system.

— Tesla and engineer Ashok Elluswamy are being sued by the wife and two daughters of Jason Bolton, a 49-year-old man who was killed in a Tesla Model 3 crash in Santa Clara County, California, in July 2023.

The Jason Bolton wrongful death lawsuit was filed by his wife, Laura, and daughters, Rowan and Willow, who all claim that Mr. Bolton died due to a defect in the 2023 Tesla Model 3, specifically the Autopilot system.

According to the lawsuit, Jason Bolton engaged Autopilot while driving a Model 3, which allegedly caused the vehicle to roll over, killing Mr. Bolton.

His family complained that he was killed due to a malfunction in the Autopilot system, for which Tesla was allegedly responsible.

Tesla allegedly put profits over safety by marketing its Autopilot system as capable of driving a vehicle instead of a human driver. Bolton’s family claims he was killed because Tesla deliberately misrepresented the Model 3’s performance.

The lawsuit claims Bolton was killed because he was manipulated by Tesla into believing Autopilot was safe to engage.

The lawsuit also claims Tesla failed to warn Bolton of the limitations of the Autopilot system. However, the owner’s manual warns drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and pay attention to their surroundings.

Jason Bolton’s lawsuit over Tesla crash has been filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court in California: Laura Bolton et al v. Ashok Elluswamy et alcase number 24CV443206.

The plaintiff’s attorney is MLG Law Firm.
