Jawa 42 FJ vs Jawa 42 Specifications Comparison: What are the differences?

Jawa launched the all-new 42 FJ in India in early September. With this, the company’s 42 series now includes the 42, 42 FJ and 42 Bobber. The 42 FJ has been extensively updated in terms of both the exterior and interior compared to the regular 42 launched earlier. With a starting price of Rs 1.99 lakh, the new Jawa 42 FJ is sportier and more powerful than the regular 42, which has a price range of Rs 1.73 lakh to Rs 1.98 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. Let’s compare the two cars and see how they differ from each other.

Firstly, the Jawa 42 FJ gets a larger 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine rated at 29bhp and 29.6Nm of peak torque. This makes it more powerful than the older Jawa 42, which used a 294.72cc J-Panther single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit with 27bhp and 26.84Nm of peak torque. Both engines come mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper-assisted clutch.

Jawa 42 FJ vs Jawa 42: Chassis, Suspension, Brakes

While the Jawa 42 FJ and Jawa 42 share a double cradle chassis, they differ slightly in terms of suspension. The former uses a 41 mm telescopic front fork and a rear shock with 5-level preload adjustability, while the latter gets a 35 mm telescopic front fork and twin gas-charged shocks. The braking setup is the same on both – single disc at both ends. Both bikes have an 18-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, but the 42 FJ gets wider rubber tyres.

Jawa 42 FJ vs Jawa 42: Design

The design of the Jawa 42 FJ is sportier than the regular Jawa 42. Compared to the latter, the former gets a new headlamp, a slimmer fuel tank (with a brushed aluminium finish), a one-piece handlebar and an upswept exhaust pipe, but lacks the small sun visor found on the 42. Its fenders and side panels are very similar to those of the regular 42, while the diamond-cut alloy wheels seem to have been borrowed from the 42 Bobber.

As for colours, Jawa is offering five new options for the new 42 FJ: Cosmo Blue Matte, Mystique Copper, Aurora Green Matte, Deep Black/Matte Black Clad and Deep Black/Matte Red Clad. Meanwhile, the Jawa 42 is available in 14 colours, six of which are new – Vega White, Voyager Red, Asteroid Grey, Odyssey Black, Nebula Blue and Celestial Copper Matte.

Jawa 42 FJ vs Jawa 42: Features

In terms of features, both the Jawa 42 FJ and 42 come with full LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster (with Bluetooth connectivity), an assist-slip clutch and dual-channel ABS. However, the base variant of the Jawa 42 gets an analog LCD arrangement. Unlike the 42 FJ, it can also be had with the option of spoke wheels.
