JSW MG Motor India, a joint venture between SAIC Motor and JSW Group, is making a big push into the Indian electric vehicle industry. At its recent DriEV.Bharat event, the manufacturer showcased a host of technologies designed to simplify the EV ownership experience and encourage EV adoption in India. EV charging infrastructure is one of the main concerns for potential customers. A new app from JSW MG Motor India, eHUB by MG, aims to address this. Using this one-stop shop, Indian customers can search, book and pay for charging stations across the country.
Besides showing the location and availability of EV charging points along the route, the app also allows users to select a destination on a map. Once the charging is complete, users can pay for the service through the app. The app boasts partners including major charging networks such as Adani Total Energies Limited (ATEL), BPCL, Chargezone, HPCL, Shell, Zeon, Glida, Statiq and Jio-BP, with more partners to come in the future. eHUB is available in 11 languages and has a journey planning feature so that a wider audience can use it. All EV owners, regardless of the model they drive, can use the app free of charge.

Other green initiatives
MG has also launched other initiatives such as Project Reviv, which aims to recycle old electric vehicle batteries, remove all usable parts, and build energy-efficient buildings that can be used in community centers and schools. Another project, EVPedia, provides relevant data on electric vehicles (EVs), including ownership costs, a library of government regulations, and a collection of articles and research papers.
The automaker also launched the MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (MG-Jio ICP), an all-new platform created in partnership with Jio. The app store on the platform allows users to download educational, entertainment and gaming apps. It also offers home-to-car functionality. MG-Jio apps can be installed on existing MG electric vehicles without any hardware upgrade. All new apps support over-the-air updates.

MG Windsor India Launch
In recent months, more than a third of JSW MG Motor India’s sales have come from electric vehicles (EVs), with the ZS EV continuing to be a best-seller four years after its launch. The company is gearing up for the debut of the Windsor EV, which is slated to go on sale in September. SAIC sells the crossover as Wuling Yun EV in Indonesia. Globally, it is available with two battery pack options: 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh, with a range of 360 km and 460 km respectively. It has a permanent magnet synchronous motor, which is placed at the front axle, but it is not clear which model will be launched in our market. In terms of pricing, the Windsor EV is expected to be priced between the Comet and ZS EV in India, with an estimated ex-showroom price of Rs 15-20 lakh.
