- Karma Automotive has revealed its first crossover, the Ivara GT-UV design study, at Monterey Car Week.
- Unlike Karma’s upcoming Kaveya coupe and Gyesera sedan EVs, the Ivara could be offered with either electric or PHEV power options.
- Karma also unveiled the production interior of Kaveya and announced a technology partnership with Intel.
Monterey Car Week was so packed with new cars that one nearby automaker had a hard time getting the exposure it deserved: Karma Automotive, whose Ivara GT-UV is the company’s first crossover, and a striking one at that.

Karma just updated its aging Revero hybrid and will introduce its next-generation Kaveya coupe (shown in production trim in Monterey) and Gyesera sedan in the next few years. But the Ivara seems most likely to succeed.

In an era when two-door sales are declining and tall-slung cars are squeezing sedans out of the market, the Ivara is a crossover, which makes it more interesting than the Kaveya or Gyesera. But the Ivara’s body shape isn’t the only thing that distinguishes it from the manufacturer’s other future models.

While the Kaveya and Gyesera are only available with EV power, the Ivara is available with either electric or plug-in hybrid technology. We say “likely” because the Ivara is just a design study at this point, and Karma hasn’t said when a production version will appear, how much power it will have, or how far it can travel on electric power.
But it does hint at some real off-road intentions, as the Ivara’s belly has a protective matte chassis coated with a self-healing paint whose microscopic sections enable it to recover from small impacts.

The company also confirmed that any production Ivara will benefit from Karma’s new agreement with Intel to jointly develop a new electrical architecture. The goal is to design a centralized control unit to handle all computing needs on the car, rather than the dozens of independent control units used on most modern vehicles. This software-defined vehicle architecture (SDVA) will debut on Kaveya in 2026.
Karma didn’t reveal how much the Ivara will cost once it goes into production, but we’re guessing it’ll be closer to the $300,000 the automaker set for the Kaveya (pictured below) than the $150,000 the Revero facelift will cost. Automotive News The carmaker had received a “multi-billion dollar” investment from its sole shareholder, China’s Wanxiang Group, in December last year and is moving upmarket, targeting McLaren, Aston Martin and Ferrari.
