Kia Motors has revealed the launch of its flagship electric SUV, the EV9, in India ahead of its official launch next month. The EV9 is set to make waves in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with its bold design, advanced features and focus on sustainability. The upcoming model is now listed on the brand’s official India website. The SUV was also recently teased on Kia India’s Instagram page and the teaser is highlighted in the website listing when you click on the new model page. The South Korean automaker plans to kick off the new model range with the debut of the GT-Line AWD variant. Notably, the EV9 will come to our country alongside the revamped three-row Carnival MPV. The launch of the EV9 marks a major step in Kia’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India and is in line with the country’s move to promote greener mobility solutions. Expectations are high as the launch date approaches.

Kia EV9: preview details
The trailer shows a view of the ocean and a clear blue sky before the camera smoothly switches to the roof of the all-electric SUV, which features a two-part panoramic sunroof. The top model, the Kia EV9 GT-Line, has a range of about 434 km in the international market. For those who are not familiar with the car, the next-generation Carnival MPV and the Kia EV9 were initially showcased at the 2023 Indian Auto Expo.
Kia EV9: Powertrain, range and charging time
The E-GMP architecture shared by Kia and its parent company Hyundai is the basis of the Kia EV9. The GT-Line AWD version of this electric SUV has a single-charge range of approximately 434 kilometers. Using 350kW DC fast charging, it can be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 24 minutes.
The GT-Line AWD is equipped with two electric motors with a maximum power of 379 horsepower and a peak torque of 700 Nm, while the base model is equipped with a single electric motor, rear-wheel drive (RWD), with a power of 201 horsepower. The EV9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in five seconds. Kia EV has a full set of Level 3 ADAS safety technologies, including lane keeping assist, parking collision avoidance, 360-degree camera with blind spot detection, and navigation-based cruise control.

Later, more entry-level variants of the EV9 may make their way to the Indian market. The model will be available as a completely built unit (CBU) and has been launched in international markets before. In the future, the Carnival MPV is planned to be locally manufactured in India, initially as a CBU.
The EV9 AWD GT-Line is priced at $73,900 (Rs 62.06 lakh) in the US market. The Indian price is yet to be announced and will be announced next month. Given that the model will be launched in CBU form, the prices may increase further. Currently, Kia India has not said that the EV9 will be assembled in the country in the near future.
