Kia Sonet EV unveiled in India, likely to launch in 2025

Kia Sonet EV spotted

Kia Sonet EV to compete head-to-head with Tata Nexon EV in India

Kia India currently offers two electric vehicles in its product portfolio – Kia EV6 and the recently launched EV9. Both cars are high-end electric vehicles. However, they now plan to launch a mass-market electric car soon. One of them has been spotted testing in India and it is the Kia Sonet EV.

A heavily camouflaged test mule covers the entire exterior of the car. The proportions and overall silhouette confirm the fact that it is a Kia Sonet. Our spotters confirmed that the prototype has no engine sound and even the tailpipe is missing, leading us to believe it’s an electric car.

The Kia Sonet EV will be one of its first mass-market electric vehicles and is expected to be launched in India by mid-2025. It will compete with the Tata Nexon EV which will be the main competitor in the segment along with the Mahindra XUV 400.

We don’t know the specifications of the upcoming electric car yet, but it will likely come with a sizable battery to compete in the segment, with a claimed range of around 450 kilometers on a full charge. Just like the Tata Nexon EV, we expect Kia to offer standard range and long-range versions at different price points.

The Kia Sonet EV may get some new color options to differentiate it from the ICE version. We can expect some styling changes such as a new grille, unique alloy wheel designs and more details. The EV model’s interior is also expected to receive subtle tweaks and a redesigned user interface. We can also expect more features to be offered.

In addition, Kia is also working on developing Carens EV, which will provide a 7/8-seat layout. It’s expected to get major styling tweaks and new features. The facelifted Carens will be available in ICE and EV versions.
