Kia Sorento headlights and taillights may fail, recalled

Kia is recalling 75,000 Sorento, Sorento Hybrid and Sorento plug-in hybrid vehicles due to a software issue.

— The Kia Sorento recall involves about 75,000 vehicles that may lose low-beam and taillights due to a software issue.

The recalled models include 2024-2025 Kia Sorento, 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid and 2025 Kia Sorento plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Kia said the culprit in the crash was a software error in the body domain control unit.

On January 7, Kia decided to recall the Sorento in South Korea due to a software problem that caused “exterior/interior lighting to temporarily disappear while driving.”

Kia searched the U.S. Kia Sorento and found no complaints about low-beam headlight or taillight issues, but if they occur, the issues could be dangerous.

Kia has not seen any reports of crashes or injuries, but decided to recall the Sorento to prevent problems.

Kia Sorento dealers will update the software once the Sorento recall letter is mailed on February 21, 2025.

Kia Sorento owners can contact Kia at 800-333-4542 and inquire about Sorento recall number SC331.
