Faulty piston rings blamed on recalls of nearly 140,000 vehicles

Kia recalled more than 137,000 cars due to piston oil rings, and the rings could be wrong. This can cause many problems, from engine damage to fire.
The recall affected the 2021-2023 Soul and 2021-2023 Seltos, equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Previous models constituted most of the recalls, which involved 83,621 souls and 53,635 Seltos’.

According to the government, over time, “quality deviations” can lead to damage to the cylinder wall. This can lead to increased fuel consumption, which can eventually lead to engine damage or seizures. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also noted: “In limited circumstances, a fire may occur due to holes in the engine block due to the potential of a fire.”
Dongsuh Federal-Mogul and Kia first realized the issue last September when they noticed potential trends in Seltos and Soul in 2021. This triggered an inspection of the return engine and found “a damaged oil ring and cylinder wall score, one of which had a hole in the engine block.”
Eventually it can be traced back to the piston ring, Kia is aware of 409 incidents and 400 possible allegations of stagnation. Automakers also know about four possible fires that all occur in the soul.
As part of the recall, the dealer will inspect and replace the engine if necessary. Technicians will also install piston ring noise sensing software and are expected to mail the owner’s notice in early April.
