While the Kia Syros reminds us of the Hyundai Casper sold in global markets, it is a larger vehicle and has a more powerful demeanor
Kia India’s journey has been a success, starting with the Seltos. The company has rapidly expanded its product portfolio to include Sonet, Carens, EV6, Carnival and even the flagship EV9. The latest product in Kia’s India portfolio is the Syros SUV, which has just been unveiled and offers a unique design that has never been seen in the Indian market.
The new Syros aims to carve out a niche for itself and offer a unique design language to discerning buyers. It stands out among other crossover SUVs sold in India. Syros aims to deliver a unique design, feature-rich experience, technology-rich personality, redefined safety proposition and premium appeal in this size range.
Kia Syros breaks cover
In terms of size, the Kia Syros is a sub-4m SUV. The Syros’ proportions are those of a boxy, upright crossover SUV, giving it a strong personality. The overall silhouette still reminds us of the modern Casper, but the Syros is a larger vehicle. Thanks to this boxy silhouette, Kia can free up a lot of interior space, which will prove to be a strength in the segment.
We have a lot to discover when it comes to design. First off, the dashboard looks like it’s out of this world. The high-set hood has muscular creases and looks majestic. The vertically arranged LED headlight setup is surrounded by huge LED daytime running lights. Lighting units are located on the sides of the upper and lower grills. There is a radar module for ADAS in the lower grille.
On the side, we can see a strong presence. Noteworthy elements here include the thick B-pillar area, practical rear side glass, flush door handles, flared wheel arches at the front, wide haunches at the rear, fuel filler cap on the left rear quarter panel, tough-looking bodywork cladding, roof rails, and a wrap-around glass area at the rear.
Speaking of the rear, we have a vertically aligned taillight signature on either side of the rear windshield. This has been a trend for the past few years, and on a new radical vehicle like this, it’s quite a statement when everyone in the world has horizontally connected taillights. However, the cumulative brake lights are located within the bumper.
futuristic interior
On the inside, the Kia Syros ups its game as it gets a new theme that is first seen in the company’s India portfolio. First, we can see the new 2-spoke steering wheel with an off-center Kia logo, similar to the EV3 and K4. There are two 30-inch Trinity displays on the instrument panel, which are very eye-catching.
Below the infotainment screen we can also see a panel with some physical buttons and switches. Notable features of the car include wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, front and rear ventilated seats, sliding and reclining rear seats, wireless charging pad, rear window sunshade, new precision gear selector, soft touch plastics, a premium Harman Kardon audio system, Kia Connect 2.0 telematics, and more.
When it comes to safety, the Kia Syros gets all the basics right. The main highlight is that it comes with radar-based Level 2 ADAS with 16 autonomous features, 6 airbags, electronic parking brake, hill assist, ABS, EBD and other features. Deliveries of the Kia Syros will begin in February 2025.
Engine and gearbox
In terms of power system, Kia Syros is equipped with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine, which can produce a peak power of 118 horsepower and a peak torque of 172 Nm. The proven 1.5-liter diesel engine develops 114 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission options include 6-speed MT, 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT. Offering a turbo-petrol engine with a manual gearbox in combination with the Syros is noteworthy.
