Kia Syros makes global debut, will be launched in India in January 2025

After many teasers and speculations, Kia India has finally launched the much-awaited Syros compact SUV. Sitting above the sub-4m Sonet SUV, the Kia Syros features a ‘stilt design’ with a flat roofline and boxy silhouette, creating more space inside – boot space is 465 liters compared to the Sonet is 385 liters. Speaking of which, Kia says the “lounge-like” cabin offers “futuristic features” and reclining rear seats, among other things.

Under the hood are a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The former is tuned to produce 118bhp and 172Nm of peak torque, while the latter produces 116bhp and 250Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, while a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and a seven-speed DCT unit are optional. Kia expects to add electric powertrains to its lineup by mid-2025. The newly launched SUV is available in 6 models – HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and HTX+ (O) – and 8 monotone paint finishes (Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl, Frost Blue, Rich Red, Gravity Grey, Imperial Blue, Brilliant Silver and Glacier White Pearl).

Kia Syros: Appearance

Syros is Kia’s new “rugged, compact SUV that combines practicality and flexibility.” It has a rugged front end that includes a tiger-nose grille, clamshell bonnet (with Kia logo), vertically stacked LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and a wide air dam. The side profile features two-tone alloy wheels, silver roof rails and recessed door handles. Wheel size is 17 inches. There’s also black cladding around the wheel arches and bumper. The tail is upright, with two-piece L-shaped taillights, an integrated spoiler, a shark fin antenna and a wrap-around windshield.

Kia Syros: interior, features

Designed to provide “maximum space and comfort,” the two-tone interior integrates reclining rear seats with leatherette upholstery and a ventilation system. The Hyundai Venue is another car in the segment that comes with reclining seats.

The Syros also comes with a panoramic sunroof, 30-inch Trinity panoramic display panel with user-friendly interface, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, two-spoke steering wheel with Kia logo, 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, dual-zone climate control, Remote window lift, engine start/stop button, new gear selector, four-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, front parking sensors, Type-C charging port, wireless charging and 64-color ambient lighting. Three terrain modes are available: Mud, Snow/Wet and Sand.

Kia Syros: safety equipment

In terms of safety, the Kia Syros comes standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS with EBD, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake (with auto-hold function), tire pressure monitor and 6 airbags. In addition to this, you also get Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) with 16 autonomous features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, high beam assist and automatic emergency braking.

Prices of the new Kia Syros will be announced in January 2025, possibly at the upcoming Bharat Mobile Expo. The model will be available for pre-order on January 3 next year and will be delivered in early February.
