Kia has launched the Syros SUV, whose unique selling points include enhanced cabin space and more premium features. Syros is also visually quite unique, which is another factor that attracts consumers. Mileage figures for the Kia Syros have been released ahead of its launch on February 1.
Kia Syros engine options and fuel efficiency
The Syros SUV is currently available with two engine options. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 120 hp and 172 Nm of torque. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 7DCT. In comparison, the 1.5-liter diesel engine delivers 116 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 6AT.
Talking about mileage, the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of the Syros petrol version with manual transmission is 18.2 km/liter and the fuel efficiency of AT transmission is 17.68 km/liter. The fuel efficiency of Syros diesel engines MT and AT are 20.75 km/liter and 17.65 km/liter respectively. So, how does the cruising range of Syros compare with other SUVs under 4 meters? Let’s take a look.
Syros Gas Mileage Comparison. competitors
Starting with the Sonet with the same engine options, the mileage of the NA petrol engine (MT) is 18.83 km/l and the turbo petrol engine (Turbo iMT) has a mileage of 18.7 km/l. The fuel efficiency of the Sonet petrol turbo DCT is 19.2 km/l. Apparently, the Sonet is slightly more fuel efficient than the Syros across all powertrain options.
The Syros has superior dimensions, which may account for its lower fuel efficiency. The Kia Syros is 15mm wider and 38mm taller than the Sonet. It also has more boot space, about 80 liters more than the Sonet. Another new entrant in the sub-4 meter SUV segment is the Skoda Kylaq. It comes with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The fuel efficiency of Kylaq MT is 19.05 km/l and that of AT is 19.68 km/l.
Currently, the best-selling SUV under 4 meters is the Maruti Brezza, with a cruising range of 17.38 km/litre for the MT and 19.80 km/litre for the AT. The fuel efficiency of Tata Nexon is 17.44 km/l (MT) and 17.18 km/l (AMT) / 17.01 km/l (DCT). The Mahindra XUV3XO is available in two 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engines, one with 111 hp and the other with 131 hp.
The fuel efficiency of the MT is 18.89 km/l / 20.1 km/l, and the fuel efficiency of the AT is 17.96 km/l / 18.2 km/l. The Hyundai Venue manual variant has a fuel efficiency of 17.52 km/l for the NA petrol engine and 18.27 km/l for the turbo petrol engine. The petrol turbo DCT model has a top speed of 18.15 km/l.
SUV under 4 meters with the highest mileage (gasoline version)
With a fuel efficiency of 19.9 km/l (NA) / 20 km/l (Turbo), the Nissan Magnite MT model performs best in terms of mileage. With AT, the Magnite delivers 19.7 km/l (NA) and 17.7 km/l. The Toyota Taisor manual model ranks second, offering 21.7 (NA) / 21.5 (Turbo). The fuel efficiency of the Taisor AT variant is 22.8 (NA) / 20 (Turbo). These numbers are the same as the Fronx MT. Obviously, the Fronx and Taisor petrol cars are the most fuel-efficient SUVs under 4 meters.
Syros diesel mileage compared to competitors
Diesel engine options are available on the Nexon, Venue, Sonet and XUV 3XO. The fuel efficiency of the Nexon is higher than that of the Syros, with the fuel efficiency of the manual transmission being 23.23 km/liter and the fuel efficiency of the AT transmission being 24.08 km/liter. The Hyundai Venue diesel MT leads the pack with a maximum fuel efficiency of 23.7 km/l. However, the Venue does not offer a diesel AT option.
The Sonet’s figures are higher than those of the Syros, with MT at 22.3 km/l and AT at 18.6 km/l. The fuel consumption of the XUV 3XO diesel MT is 20.6 km/l, which is very close to the 20.75 km/l of the Syros diesel MT. The XUV 3XO diesel automatic transmission has a fuel efficiency of 21.2 km/l. It is obvious that the Venue is the most fuel efficient among the diesel MT models. The Nexon has the highest mileage among the diesel automatic models.
