Lamborghini debuts Countach 50th Anniversary Edition

The Lamborghini Countach, introduced in March 1974, marked a major shift for the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based automaker. It was the first Lamborghini to feature an in-house body and interior, breaking away from the company’s previous reliance on specialist coachbuilders. The change streamlined the production process and gave Lamborghini more creative control, fueling its growth and cementing its reputation as a cutting-edge super sports car maker. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Lamborghini has brought back the original Countach LP 400 for a photo shoot alongside its modern successor, the Revuelto.

Ranieri Niccoli, Lamborghini’s Chief Manufacturing Officer, said: “We are proud to still produce our super sports cars in the birthplace of the Countach. Since then, production methods have radically changed, with many aspects significantly altered from the production of the Countach to today’s models. Our production methods today are very different from those in 1974, but it retains the best aspects and combines the manual skills of our operators with state-of-the-art technology to produce what we call Manifattura Lamborghini Next Level. What the production of the Countach and our cars today have in common is the same attention to detail.”

About Lamborghini Countach

The Lamborghini Countach LP 400, introduced in 1974, was an innovative car. Its 3.9-liter V12 engine produced 369 horsepower. The Countach’s wedge-shaped body and scissor doors made it distinctive and redefined automotive design. During its 16-year production run, the Countach continued to evolve with each new version. The LP 400 S featured flared wheel arches, while the 5000 S was equipped with a larger 4.8-liter V12, reflecting its continued improvement.

Today, Lamborghini continues the Countach legacy with the Revuelto 12-cylinder plug-in hybrid. The Revuelto’s V12 engine, battery pack and scissor doors all pay homage to the original Countach, while its design includes “Countach lineage” to link it to its iconic predecessor.

The Lamborghini Revuelto features a hybrid powertrain with a newly developed 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine. The engine delivers 825 horsepower and 725 Nm of torque. Three electric motors and a 3.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack power the V12 engine, bringing the total output to 1,015 horsepower. This setup enables rapid acceleration and a top speed of over 350 km/h.

An 8-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to all four wheels, ensuring smooth shifts and excellent traction. The Revuelto’s powertrain not only delivers outstanding performance, it also supports more sustainable driving.
