Lamborghini recalls two Revueltos due to possible fire risk after New York crash
  • Lamborghini has just recalled two Revuelto hybrid supercars due to potential fire risks.
  • Every vehicle can have a small defect that in rare cases could cause a fire.
  • The recall comes after an internet celebrity’s Revuelto was burned down in New York.

Most Lamborghini Revuelto owners can rest easy knowing that the fire that broke out in October did not appear to be caused by a widespread problem. In the meantime, two of them do need to have their supercars inspected by dealers and possibly serviced. They may also want to tow vehicles for service, as there is evidence that affected models can catch fire even with very limited mileage.

The drama stems from the Revertto fire in New York in October, which sparked a Lamborghini investigation. After examining the car’s charred remains, Lamborghini engineers eventually pinpointed the culprit: “a possible oil leak from a connection in the oil line flange from the radiator to the fuel tank,” according to Lamborghini’s findings.

Reports show that before the accident, the Revuelto that caught fire had its oil lines modified. When this happens, no one confirms that the screws holding the oil pipe to the flange are tightened correctly. When oil escapes from the flange, it can drip onto hot parts and catch fire.

Oddly enough, this reminds us of the high-profile Rehuerto fire that occurred last October. It involved internet celebrity Ethan Duran and a car he had barely driven, with only 108 miles on the odometer, when it suddenly turned into a ball of fire. Duran immediately pulled over after spotting flames coming from the rear of the car. Lamborghini hasn’t officially confirmed whether the Duran’s crispy Revuelto is the same car mentioned in its NHTSA filings, but let’s just say the odds are higher than average.

Luckily, Lamborghini says this isn’t a widespread problem. Two affected owners (yes, only two) need to have their cars inspected at dealers. If necessary, the technician tightens the oil line flange screws. Once processed, everything should be golden.

Even better, any Revuelto coming off the assembly line this month or later won’t have this problem. Lamborghini says newer production processes have eliminated this flaw, so the risk of your supercar becoming a fire starter has officially been reduced.
