Latest News: Nissan X-Trail will re-enter the Indian market

Nissan, known primarily for its Magnite SUV in India, is now gearing up to enrich its lineup with the relaunch of the Nissan X-Trail, a premium SUV that aims to take on the Hyundai Tucson and other rivals in its segment. Recently teased and set to debut in showrooms via CBU (completely built vehicle), the Nissan X-Trail has been much anticipated ever since it was first unveiled in 2022 and road tested in India.

2024 Nissan X-Trail design

The fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail showcases an upright stance and a modern, chiseled design language. Key design elements include split headlamps, a flat roofline, black cladding, and rugged scuff plates on the front and rear bumpers. Wheel options are expected to range between 18 and 19 inches to suit different preferences while maintaining an understated yet attractive aesthetic.

Cabin and interior facilities

The 2024 X-Trail is built on the new CMF-C platform jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. It is 4,680 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, 1,725 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,705 mm. This configuration ensures ample interior space, and 5- and 7-seat configurations are possible. The cabin design prioritizes traditional layout and focuses on comfort, with a large number of features, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, a Bose sound system, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), three-zone climate control, and an electronic parking brake.

Powertrain options

The 2024 Nissan X-Trail is expected to be powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine with a powerful 204 hp and 305 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT gearbox. While not tailored for enthusiasts, Nissan is likely to offer a powerful hybrid model and AWD (all-wheel drive) configuration options to appeal to a wider range of drivers.

Price and competition

The Nissan X-Trail competes directly with the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan and is positioned in line with the government’s import policy, which allows up to 2,500 vehicles to be imported per year without full homologation. Prices are expected to start from Rs 30 lakh, reflecting its premium positioning. The official launch is imminent and the teaser suggests the X-Trail will debut on July 17.

in conclusion

The relaunch of the Nissan X-Trail marks Nissan’s strategic move to expand its presence in India’s competitive SUV market. Blending modern design, advanced features and robust performance, the X-Trail aims to carve out a niche among discerning SUV buyers.
