- Lucid asks the owner to remove the mats and will return them.
- The cushion is only fixed to the bottom by a small tip.
- Lucid’s other floor mats have anchors that secure them to the carpet.
If you happen to have sober air equipped with an optional all-weather floor mat, you may want to be prepared for some unexpected news. The automaker is issuing recall notices because these floor mats have the potential to move out of position and interfere with the accelerator pedal, increasing the risk of accidents.

Does it sound familiar? Starting more than a decade ago, this is reminiscent of Toyota’s infamous floor mat collapse, where the mat is incorrectly attributed to a series of unexpected acceleration events.
According to Lucid, its model-00 all-weather floor mat is only held in place by the small nib on the bottom, not any proper anchor. This means they can easily slide forward, which can lead to unexpected acceleration. This not only puts the occupants at risk, but also can endanger other road users.
How did all this happen?
Lucid first realized a potential issue last August when a sales assistant drove the air in the European floor mat, suspected that the mat was sliding forward and causing the accelerator to stick with it. The company later realized the case of 13 other floor mats, but there was no report of disturbing the accelerator.
However, on February 27, 2025, U.S. customers reported an issue: while accelerating, the accelerator pedal did not return to its normal position after being released. Lucid determines that floor mats have the potential to move and interfere with pedals pose unreasonable safety risks.
As a result, the company has stopped selling problematic all-weather floor mats and now only offer mats that are attached to anchors on the carpet with holes, just like you’ll find in most vehicles.
The owner of Lucid Air Models is instructed to remove it and will receive a full refund. If you are not sure if the mat is a defective or newer, anchor type, just take your vehicle to a sober facility for a free check.
