Mahindra Thar driver stops KSRTC bus from overtaking

It is not uncommon for bus drivers to violate traffic rules on Indian roads. We have come across several such incidents across the country, where dangerous driving by heavy vehicle drivers often leads to accidents. Here we look at an incident in Kerala where a government bus was trying to overtake but a car driver crossed into the opposite lane, blocking the bus’s path. Since then, the video has gone viral on the internet.

Mediaone TV Live shared the video here on its YouTube channel. The video was captured by the dashcam of the vehicle that blocked the road. In the video, we can see that the car was driving on a narrow single lane. It is not clear from the video where exactly the accident took place.

We saw a bus and a car coming from the opposite direction. Just behind the private car and the car, there was a KSRTC bus trying to overtake both the vehicles. The bus was already in the opposite lane ready to overtake. However, the driver of the Mahindra Thar coming from the opposite direction noticed that the bus was in his lane.

Instead of giving way, the driver of the Mahindra Thar drove straight towards the bus. The bus driver also had no intention of returning to his lane, so he slowed down. Both the car and the bus stopped right in front of each other. Then, the waiting game began. The bus driver waited for the SUV to move, while the car driver waited for the bus driver to return to his lane.

Meanwhile, other vehicles were passing by on both sides of the road. The bus driver soon realized that the Mahindra Thar driver would not budge from the spot, so he slowly began to turn the wheel back to his lane. It is important to note that the vehicle was blocking the path of a government bus, whose driver had stopped a government official on duty. This is actually an illegal act; however, in this case, the circumstances were slightly different.

Ksrtc Overtakes From Opposite Lane

It is a given for bus drivers to overtake vehicles where there is a broken white line; however, the basic rule when trying to overtake the vehicle in front is to watch out for oncoming traffic.

If you see oncoming traffic, do not overtake. Always look for a window with no oncoming traffic and only overtake when it is safe to do so.

The bus driver must have noticed the oncoming car, but even so, he did not return to his lane. Instead, he decided to stay in the oncoming lane and hope that the car driver would drive around the bus. The bus driver should not do this because he wasted his own time and the time of the other passengers on the bus.

People driving such heavy vehicles should be very patient as they are transporting passengers. By performing such dangerous overtaking maneuvers on the road, the driver is not only putting his own life at risk but also the lives of other road users and passengers.
