Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. announced that three of its vehicles (Thar ROXX, XUV 3XO and XUV400) have received a 5-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat-NCAP). This achievement underscores Mahindra’s commitment to improving safety in the Indian automotive market and meeting stringent safety standards across various SUV segments.
Thar ROXX: Leader in body-on-frame safety
Mahindra’s Thar ROXX created history by becoming the first non-cargo SUV to receive a 5-star rating from Bharat-NCAP. In terms of Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), it scored an impressive 31.09 points out of 32 points, while Child Occupant Protection (COP) scored 45 points out of 49 points. With these ratings, Thar ROXX achieved the highest score among all Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles that have passed the Bharat-NCAP test so far.
The Thar ROXX’s comprehensive safety package includes six airbags, three-point seat belts for all passengers and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Notable advanced safety features include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and a 360-degree surround view system with blind-sight monitor. Safety is further enhanced by the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Brake Locking Differential (BLD), especially in off-road conditions, for which the Thar is famous.
XUV 3XO: Compact SUV safety benchmark
The XUV 3XO also received a 5-star rating from Bharat-NCAP, reflecting Mahindra’s efforts to prioritize safety across different SUV models. This compact SUV scored 29.36 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 43 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, providing families with all-round safety.
Made from high-strength steel, the XUV 3XO includes standard safety features such as six airbags, 3-point safety belts on all seats, ISOFIX child seat anchors and ESC. Additional advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane keep assist add further layers of protection. These features work in conjunction with all-round disc brakes and a 360-degree surround view system to help reduce the risk of collision and improve control in a variety of driving conditions.
XUV400: Pioneer in electric vehicle safety
Mahindra’s electric SUV XUV400 joins the Bharat-NCAP five-star rating lineup, demonstrating strong occupant protection features with adult occupant safety scores of 30.377/32 and child safety scores of 43/49. Safety features on the XUV400 include six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors and all-round disc brakes. A reversing camera with adaptive guidance is also part of the package, enhancing driver awareness and ease of maneuvering. The five-star safety rating highlights the XUV400’s potential as a reliable electric vehicle option on Indian roads.
