As of now, Mahindra has only announced the price of the base model of the MX1, and detailed prices of other models will be announced later.
Continuing its tradition of launching or revealing new and exciting products on India’s Independence Day on August 15, Mahindra has just launched the Thar Roxx. This is the much-awaited 5-door version of the Thar, which has single-handedly saved the lifestyle SUV segment from the dead. Here’s a detailed look at the new Thar Roxx.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Walk Around
Firstly, Mahindra has launched only the base MX1 model and not the entire range. The Thar Roxx MX1 petrol starts at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and the MX1 diesel starts at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom). At the launch event, Mahindra showcased only the top-of-the-line model and we got a chance to see all the bells and whistles that the Thar Roxx has to offer.
The Thar Roxx gets a new fascia. Mahindra has given it a new body-coloured grille this time. There are also new bumpers, which look more muscular than before. The Thar Roxx also gets LED projector headlamps, along with LED daytime running lights that are almost circular in shape.
From the front, we can also see the camera on the windshield for Level 2 ADAS. From the side, the main highlight is the larger 19-inch wheels with 255-section tyres. There are now disc brakes at the rear, which the 3-Door Thar does not have. Mahindra has also provided matching wheel arch cladding all around.

However, there is a strange bend above the rear door, which is considered to be a feature of the Thar Roxx. Perhaps this is necessary to keep the design of the Jeep Wrangler as close as possible. Other notable highlights include the pillar-mounted rear door handles and the wide rear door opening.
There is a side step for easy entry and exit. The roof is now a fixed unit and is completely metal, unlike the 3-door Thar. The addition of a rear door brings the design of the Thar Roxx closer to that of the Jeep Wrangler. At the rear, we now have new LED taillights and the same 2-step rear tailgate.
Major interior upgrade
Where the Thar Roxx gets a complete makeover is in the interior. The interior of the Mahindra Thar Roxx exudes a new technological feel which is missing in the 3-door model. There are simply too many new features in the Thar Roxx compared to the 3-door model.
For starters, there’s a new 10.2-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a 10.2-inch instrument screen with full-screen navigation, ventilated front seats, rear air-conditioning vents, front and rear armrests, a panoramic sunroof, a power driver’s seat, soft-touch plastics, a larger trunk and an overall sense of space.
In terms of powertrain, Mahindra has only announced the specifications of the base MX1. The petrol engine has a power of 160 hp and a torque of 330 Nm, while the diesel engine has a power of 150 hp and a torque of 330 Nm. Details of other models will be announced today. Stay tuned.
