In the variant line-up, the Mahindra Thar Roxx MX3 sits below the AX3L, MX5, AX5L and AX7L, offering a good balance between features and price.
Of the 150 media cars that Mahindra sneaked to Kochi, almost all of them were top-of-the-line models based on the AX7L trim. This is what Mahindra offered the Rushlane at the media drive event, and we were impressed after the drive. You can read the Rushlane’s Thar Roxx first drive review to know more.
However, there is also a Thar Roxx MX3 in media reports. As shown in the latest video by Motoroids, it comes with a decent set of features and is priced between Rs 14.99 lakh to Rs 17.49 lakh (Ex-sh). Let’s see what features Mahindra has offered for this mid-range model which is likely to become the best-selling Thar Roxx variant.
Mahindra Thar Roxx MX3 Variants
To Mahindra’s credit, it has achieved no small feat, bringing its traditional minimalist lifestyle off-roader into the modern era. The Thar Roxx even rivals the C-segment high-riding crossovers in terms of equipment, features and comfort.
Apart from the top-spec AX7L trim that we came across, not much is known about the lower-spec variants of the Thar Roxx. Ahead of its arrival at dealerships, a presentation video of the mid-spec Thar Roxx MX3 variant has hit the internet, courtesy of a media drive event hosted by Mahindra in Kochi, Kerala.
First, there aren’t many cosmetic cutbacks to suggest “low” or “mid”. The MX3 is positioned below the AX3L, MX5, AX5L and AX7L, so a few aspects are omitted. On the outside, the MX3 lacks fog lights and a front camera. There are no alloy wheels, instead there are 18-inch steel wheels with a black finish and gray wheel caps.
The ORVMs lack cameras as the MX3 lacks the 360-degree camera and blind view monitor features. Moving on to the cameras, the windshield-mounted camera for the Level 2 ADAS kit is also missing. Inside, the MX3 does not get the leatherette cladding with stitching as well as the fully digital instrument cluster.
The seats have black fabric upholstery and the driver’s seat is manually adjustable, not electrically. There is no sunroof, not even a single-pane one. The interior lighting is different from the MX3. Another notable element of the MX3 is that it also comes with a stylish spare tire cover.
What did it get?
Even though the MX3 is a mid-range model priced at Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), Mahindra has provided many necessary features. To start with, the MX3 comes with LED projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, side steps, an internally operated fuel filler cap and other necessary features.
Inside, the MX3 is equipped with the same 10.2-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. There are also steering wheel controls and cruise control, frameless auto-dimming IRVM, front and rear armrests, adjustable headrests, rear air-conditioning vents, etc.
In terms of powertrain, the MX3 offers three models, depending on the powertrain combination. We offer models equipped with a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline automatic transmission option. The MX3 is only available with a RWD drivetrain layout.
