Mahindra Thar Roxx starts deliveries in India, prices

Mahindra has finally started delivering the Thar Roxx in India. The new variant of the popular off-roader features a rugged design and improved specifications aimed at catering to adventure enthusiasts. Prices for the 5-door Thar start at Rs 12.99 lakh and go up to Rs 22.49 lakh. Both prices mentioned above are ex-showroom. For the uninitiated, the model recently achieved a major milestone, garnering over 176,000 bookings within 60 minutes of the booking window opening. Mahindra has assured customers that a tentative delivery schedule will be provided in phases over the next three weeks. As deliveries begin across the country, the Thar Roxx will strengthen the homegrown carmaker’s position in the highly competitive off-road vehicle segment.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Powertrain options

Mechanically, the off-roader is available with a choice of two engines: a 2.0-liter mStallion turbo-petrol and a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. While petrol models are only available with rear-wheel drive, diesel models offer the additional option of a 4×4 drivetrain, including a low-range transfer case for enhanced off-road capability.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Variants and Designs

Customers can choose from seven exterior paints: Stealth Black, Tango Red, Everest White, Deep Forest, Nebula Blue, Battleship Gray and Burnt Ocher. All shades are paired with a black roof. As for variants, there are six broad trim levels: MX1, MX3, AX3 L, MX5, AX5 L and AX7. The 4WD setting is only available on MX5, AX5L and AX7L models, and automatic 4WD is only available on AX5L and AX7L models.

The refreshed Thar retains its iconic boxy silhouette while adding some unique features such as LED headlights paired with C-shaped daytime running lights (DRL) and a body-coloured six-slat grille. It also includes beefy bumpers, rear door-mounted handles, 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, tailgate-mounted spare wheel, round fog lamps and rectangular LED tail lamps.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Interior and safety features

The interior is available in two themes: classic ivory and a new dark mocha brown. Deliveries of the latter will begin in January next year. In terms of features, the Thar gets ventilated seats with leatherette upholstery, fully digital instrument cluster, larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Car compatibility and six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

Talking about safety kit, the new Mahindra Thar comes with six airbags, hill-start and descent control, electronic stability control (ESC) and a 360-degree camera. The ADAS suite offers features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Market Competition

The off-roader is priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 20.49 lakh for the RWD variant, while the 4WD variant is priced between Rs 18.79 lakh and Rs 22.49 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom. It competes with the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. In terms of pricing, it can also be compared with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
