Mahindra Thar Roxx: What went wrong?

Thar fans are going crazy over the upcoming Roxx model, which is undoubtedly the most anticipated car of the year. Mahindra’s previous Thar models were a huge success, beating all competitors across price ranges, and the new Thar Roxx is expected to do the same. However, there are some aspects of this latest model that have given fans pause. In this blog, we will highlight the reasons why Mahindra has let some customers down.

New Thar Roxx: What went wrong?

Mahindra has made significant upgrades to the new Roxx model that were not available before, such as new ventilated seats, level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, LED headlights, new DRLs, digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, and most importantly, a new 5-door upgrade. These upgrades have undoubtedly gotten rid of the stereotypical image of the previous Thar. However, some aspects have not lived up to the expectations of fans.

In terms of power, the automatic variant of the Thar Roxx has an edge over the manual variant. The automatic variant has 170 hp and 370 Nm of torque, while the manual variant has just 150 hp and 330 Nm of torque. This is a major issue for the Thar as most Thar fans prefer manual transmission driving over automatic.

Another major issue is related to the 4×4 segment. There is no 4×4 segment for the petrol model of the Thar Roxx. Only the diesel model has the 4×4 segment. The 4×4 segment of the Thar is the most admired and for people who prefer petrol cars over diesel cars, the absence of a petrol model in this segment can be a big issue.

Also, the new Roxx’s light interiors and extended wheelbase haven’t been received too well. Since the Thar is primarily seen as an off-roader, light interiors might dampen the experience. They get dirty more easily than dark interiors, which makes them less suitable for off-roading. Also, the long wheelbase might pose a problem when going off-road.
