Roxx is more suitable for meeting family needs, while Thar will still be the first choice for adventure lovers
Mahindra has launched the all-new Thar Roxx at an attractive price of Rs 12.99 lakh. These are the entry prices and they are likely to go up in the future. Right now the options include the 3-door Thar and the 5-door Roxx, here is a quick comparison to understand the wider differences between the two models.
Thar Vs. Thar Roxx – Styling, Color Options
There aren’t any major changes in the design of the Thar Roxx. However, the Roxx does have some unique features like a new front grille. Even the base variant of the Roxx comes with C-shaped LED daytime running lights and LED headlamps and tail lamps. The side profile of the Roxx stands out from the crowd with a new design featuring diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The running boards are longer and wider and the rear wheel arches are squared off. The Roxx gets rear side glass which is another differentiating factor compared to the 3-door Thar. The Roxx is available in 7 colours while the Thar is available in only 5 colours.
Due to its larger size, the Roxx has a more dominant presence on the road. The Roxx is expected to be about 300 mm longer than the 3-door Thar model. However, the Roxx is 443 mm longer than the standard Thar. The Roxx is also wider, taller and has a longer wheelbase compared to the Thar. These advantages ensure that the overall visibility of the Roxx on the street is better than the 3-door Thar.
Thar Vs. Thar Roxx – Features
When it comes to the equipment list, the Roxx is well ahead of the 3-door model. Features exclusive to the Roxx include a panoramic sunroof, power ventilated seats and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. The Roxx has an improved digital cockpit with dual 26.03 cm digital screens and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety has been enhanced for the Roxx, with driver and passenger as well as side and side curtain airbags as standard on all models. The Roxx also benefits from 10 Level 2 ADAS features.
Thar vs Thar Roxx – Powertrain Options
The Mahindra Roxx has one diesel and one petrol option, while the Thar offers two diesel and one petrol options. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel have higher power and torque outputs compared to the 3-door Thar.

The 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 152 PS / 330 Nm and 175 PS / 370 Nm respectively. Both engines are available with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions.
The 3-door Thar is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 118 PS and 300 Nm of torque. The car is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 132 PS and 300 Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 152 PS and 300 Nm of torque. The gearbox options for both engines are the same as the Roxx.
