As the electric vehicle (EV) market accelerates, two prominent contenders – Mahindra XUV 9e and Hyundai Ioniq 5 – are grabbing attention with their cutting-edge technology and eye-catching designs. Both models meet the growing demand for sustainable mobility while offering unique features that set them apart. The Mahindra XUV 9e is a bold entrant into the Indian electric vehicle segment with an emphasis on practicality and affordability, while the global front-runner Hyundai Ioniq 5 stands out with its futuristic aesthetics and advanced engineering. Mahindra XEV 9e vs Hyundai Ioniq 5 specs comparison: price
Mahindra has announced the prices for the entry-level version of the XEV 9e (called Pack 1), which does not come with a charger and must be purchased separately. The launch price of this version is Rs 21.90 lakh. Details and pricing of other models will be announced at the upcoming Bharat Mobile Expo. Deliveries are expected to begin in February next year.

On the other hand, Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available in a single RWD variant priced at Rs 46.05 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom.
Mahindra XEV 9e vs Hyundai Ioniq 5 specs comparison: Dimensions
The length, width and height of the XEV 9e are 4,790mm, 1,905mm, and 1,690mm respectively. The wheelbase is 2,775mm and the ground clearance is 207mm. It offers an impressive 665 liters of boot space.
By comparison, the Ioniq 5 has a wheelbase of 3,000mm, a length of 4,635mm, a width of 1,890mm and a height of 1,625mm. Its luggage space is 584 liters.

The XEV 9e will come with two battery options: a 59kWh battery and a 79kWh battery, both powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. The vehicle is built on Mahindra’s adaptable INGLO platform and features a compact three-in-one powertrain that integrates the electric motor, inverter and gearbox. The 79kWh battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes thanks to a 175kW DC fast charger, while the 59kWh version requires a 140kW charger to achieve the same charging time. The 79kWh version has a cruising range of 656 kilometers on the MIDC cycle.
The BEV includes an 11kW on-board charger, with optional 7.2kW and 11kW chargers. The 7.2kW charger takes 8.7 hours to fully charge the 59kWh battery, while the 11kW charger reduces the time to 6 hours. For a 79kWh battery, the 7.2kW charger takes 11.7 hours and the 11kW charger takes 8 hours. The 79kWh version is equipped with a 282bhp, 380Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds, while the 59kWh version is equipped with a 228bhp electric motor.

The Ioniq 5 electric car is equipped with a single rear-wheel drive electric motor and a 72.6kWh battery. This setup delivers 216bhp and 350Nm of torque. Hyundai claims that the car can travel 631 kilometers on a full charge. In addition, a 350kW DC fast charger can boost battery power from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. The Ioniq 5 also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, allowing it to deliver up to 4.82bhp of electricity.

The interior design of Mahindra models has a clean, modern style with a two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Infinity logo and a layered instrument panel. The center console houses the drive mode controls, gear lever, two cupholders and wireless charging pad. This design flows smoothly into the front armrest, creating a cohesive and integrated look. The dashboard features a triple-screen setup with separate displays for the driver, touchscreen and passenger.
The electric SUV comes with a panoramic glass roof, colored ambient lighting, cruise control, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power ventilated seats, Harman-Kardon 16-speaker sound system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, entertainment screen, dual-zone climate controls and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. In terms of safety, XEV 9e is equipped with front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake (EPB), six airbags, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), automatic parking, secondary ADAS and 360-degree camera.
The Ioniq 5’s cabin is finished in a deep pebble gray color scheme and the seats feature eco-friendly leather upholstery. The dashboard and doors are made of soft-touch materials, while the armrests, seat cushions, and steering wheel feature pixelated designs. In terms of configuration, the car is equipped with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, 8-speaker Bose sound system, digital instrument panel, voice assistant, 6 airbags, disc brakes, remote door lock/unlock, horizontal Height adjustment etc. 2 ADAS, EPB, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, dual-zone climate control, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and electric tailgate. A flat floor, slim cockpit design, sliding center console and glove box create a futuristic look.
