Compared to the India-spec model, the Mahindra XUV3XO launched in South Africa features black seat upholstery, dashboard and door moldings
In an effort to expand its global presence, Mahindra Auto has launched the XUV3XO in South Africa. The car is the same model that was launched in the domestic market a few months ago. Since it is destined for South Africa, the price has increased and the interiors have also changed. Let’s take a look at what is different in the South African model.
Mahindra XUV3XO launched in South Africa
With the launch of XUV3XO in India, Mahindra Auto has clearly revolutionized the sub-4 meter SUV segment with radical features. Specifically, some of the key advantages of XUV3XO are not common in several compact SUVs or even mid-size SUVs. The company even hopes to take the number one position in the sub-4 meter SUV segment with XUV3XO.
Now, the same model has been launched in South Africa, expanding Mahindra’s global presence. In South Africa, the Mahindra XUV3XO is launched in multiple trim levels, starting with the MX2 and going up to the top-of-the-line AX7L trim.
Prices start at R254,999 for the MX2 petrol MT model and R404,999 for the AX7L petrol AT model. At today’s exchange rate, the prices range from Rs 12.15 lakh to Rs 19.3 lakh. For reference, the XUV3XO in India is priced from Rs 7.49 lakh for the MX1 petrol MT model.
In India, the top variant of the Mahindra XUV3XO, the AX7L TGDi Petrol AT, is priced at Rs 15.49 lakh. It is worth noting that the Mahindra XUV3XO launched in South Africa does not come with the higher-spec TGDi Turbo Petrol engine, which produces 129 hp of power and 230 Nm of torque.
Instead, only the lower-spec TC MPFi engine is sold in South Africa, with 109 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Both the 6-speed manual and 6-speed AISIN automatic torque converter gearboxes are sold in South Africa. Design-wise, we don’t see any changes, with all elements of the XUV3XO exterior carried over to the South African model.
The interior has undergone major changes
While the exterior remains the same, the interior has undergone major changes. The Mahindra XUV3XO launched in South Africa comes with an all-black dashboard and door trims, along with silver pillar trims and roof and black interiors. In contrast, the Indian market gets a dual-tone dashboard and door trims, along with a white interior.
The white leatherette interior of the top-spec model has been controversial as it gets dirty easily. We hope Mahindra will offer a black or brown interior option for the Indian market. Other than that, we could see similar features as the India-spec model.
A panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloys, rear air-conditioning vents, a 10.2-inch infotainment and instrument screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Level 2 ADAS with AEB are some of the noteworthy features.
