Mahindra XUV400 EV’s Bharat NCAP 5-star rating explained

Bharat NCAP conducts crash test on three popular Mahindra SUVs – XUV 3XOXUV 400 EV and tar spray. Interestingly, all three models received a five-star safety rating, reflecting the brand’s commitment to “create SUVs that prioritize occupant safety while delivering superior performance and cutting-edge technology.” Mahindra XUV400 EV in Adult Occupant Protection It received 5 stars (30.38 out of 32 points) and 5 stars (43 out of 49 points) for child occupant protection.

The electric SUV scored 14.38 points (out of 16 points) in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 16 points (out of 16 points) in the side movable deformable barrier test. The XUV400 EV offers good protection for the driver and passenger’s head, neck and thighs. However, protection for the driver’s chest and lower legs was deemed adequate.

In terms of child occupant protection, the Mahindra electric SUV received a perfect safety rating, scoring 24 out of 24 points in dynamic testing, 12 out of 12 points for child seat restraint (CRS) installation and 7 points in vehicle assessment (out of 13 points). The model tested was equipped with basic safety features, including six airbags, disc brakes all round, Isofix child seat anchors, a tire pressure monitoring system and a reversing camera with adaptive guidance.

For safety, the Mahindra XUV400 EV also comes with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), Electronic Stability Program, Rear Parking Sensors, Hill Hold Assist, Rear Defogger, Wash and Wipe Features as well as rain sensing wipers.

The XUV 400 EV model range is equipped with 34.5kWh (EC Pro/EL Pro) and 39.4kWh (EL Pro only) battery packs. The EC Pro comes with a standard 3.3kW AC charger, while the EL Pro offers a faster 7.2kW AC charger for both batteries. The smaller battery pack is claimed to offer a range of 375 kilometers, while the larger battery promises 456 kilometers on the MIDC cycle.
