The trade show and event industry mourns the passing of Manuel A. Chico, a cherished colleague and friend who passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 28, 2024. Born on December 1, 1964 in Orland Park, Illinois and spent most of his life in Chicago, Manny was a proud truck driver who embodied the values of hard work, reliability and community.
Manny’s work took him to Las Vegas, where he impressed his colleagues and friends. Among his many roles and responsibilities, he served as Circulation Manager for Exhibit City News, where his dedication ensured the publication’s impact and success.
“He was the most selfless, giving person I’ve ever met,” said friend and colleague Christy DiGiambattista. “Manny always put others first and never hesitated to lend a helping hand where needed. His quiet strength and unwavering generosity were a testament to his character.”
“Manny was truly a one-of-a-kind person,” said colleague and friend Lisa Abrams. “While he was at ECN headquarters, he brought a levity and sometimes comic relief. We will miss his visits.”
Manny was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Chico. his siblings, Rafael Chico Jr. and Maria Wilma Chico; and his nephew Armando. He was preceded in death by his father, Rafael Chico Sr.; his siblings, Rosa Chico, Carmen Chico (James) and Rodolfo Chico (Chris); and his beloved nieces and nephews: Shannon, Cary, Olive, Ava, Naomi and many other extended family members.
A celebration of Manny’s life was held on July 26, 2024 at Beggar’s Pizza in Blue Island, IL.
Manny will be remembered for his selflessness, kindness and the deep connections he made with those who knew him. He leaves behind an unforgettable legacy of service, generosity and love.
