Mahindra Thar is currently the best-selling car in the off-road SUV segment in India. Earlier this car was available only in 4WD version but recently the rear-wheel drive version was also launched in the country. Now, Maruti’s 5-door Jimny is all set to be launched in the market to compete with this car. Maruti Suzuki has already started the booking page for this car. Today we will bring you a comparison of these two cars which will make it easier for you to choose one of them.
Size comparison
The Mahindra Thar is 3,985mm long, 1,820mm wide and 1,855mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,450mm and the ground clearance is 226mm. On the other hand, when it comes to the Ejimni, it has a length of 3,985mm, a width of 1,645mm, a height of 1,720mm, a wheelbase of 2,590mm and a ground clearance of 210mm. Both the SUVs are based on a ladder frame chassis. The Mahindra Thar has an approach angle of 41.2 degrees, a departure angle of 36 degrees and a breakover angle of 26.2 degrees. The Jimny has an approach angle of 36 degrees, a departure angle of 50 degrees and a breakover angle of 24 degrees, while the Thar comes with 16-inch or 18-inch wheels, depending on the variant. Whereas the Jimny comes with 15-inch alloy wheels.
Engine Comparison
The Thar is available with three engine options, including the 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel (117bhp/300Nm), the 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel (130bhp/300Nm) and the 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol (150bhp/320Nm). The Jimny, on the other hand, is powered by a sole 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine (103bhp/134Nm).
Transmission comparison
In terms of transmission, the Thar is equipped with a 1.5-liter diesel engine mated to a 6-speed MT, while the 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter petrol engines are available with a 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT options. The Jimny, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine with a choice of a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT.
Drive System
Thar now has the option of RWD in addition to the 4WD system. Whereas the 4WD system of Maruti Jimny is equipped with All Grip System.

price comparison
The ex-showroom price of Mahindra Thar ranges between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 6.49 lakh. On the other hand, the price of Jimny is yet to be announced but it is expected to be between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 13 lakh.
