The Brezza is not only the best-selling Maruti car, it is also the highest-selling car in India in August 2024

August 2024 was a dull month for auto sales. Last month, unprecedented heavy rains and severe flooding in many areas cast a shadow on auto sales. Not only did a large number of automakers see a year-on-year decline in sales, but even the country’s largest automaker saw a year-on-year decline of 8%.

Maruti sales in August 2024

In August 2024, Maruti Suzuki sales fell 8% year-on-year to 1,43,075 units. This exceeded the 1,56,114 units sold in August 2023. However, month-on-month sales increased by 4% over the 1,37,463 units sold in July 2024. Maruti Brezza topped the sales charts last month. It was not only the best-selling model in the company’s lineup, but also topped the list of the top 10 best-selling cars and SUVs in August 2024.

Brezza sales last month stood at 19,190 units, up 32% from 14,572 units in August 2023, while month-on-month sales were up 31% compared to 14,676 units in July 2024. It was followed by the Ertiga in second place. Ertiga sales improved both year-on-year and month-on-month to 18,580 units, up 51% year-on-year and 18% month-on-month. This was ahead of the 12,315 and 15,701 units sold in August 2023 and July 2024, respectively.

WagonR also saw positive results in sales last month with 16,450 units sold. It registered a 6% YoY growth compared to 15,578 units sold in August 2023, while MoM sales were up 2% from 16,191 units sold in July 2024. Maruti Swift sales fell 31% to 12,844 units in August 2024, down from 18,653 units sold in August 2023. MoM sales performance also suffered a setback of 24%. In July 2024, Swift sold 16,854 units. Maruti is gearing up to launch the Swift CNG this week.

While the demand for the Maruti Baleno hatchback grew 34% month-on-month to 12,485 units in August 2024, its year-on-year sales fell 33% from 18,516 units in August 2023. It was followed by the Fronx, which sold 12,387 units in August 2024, with a year-on-year sales growth of 2% and a month-on-month growth of 13%. On the other hand, the Eeco van sales fell 7% year-on-year and 8% month-on-month to 10,985 units, while lower on the sales chart was the DZire, which sold 10,627 units.

Maruti sales to be below 10,000 units in August 2024

The only model with sales below 10,000 units was the Grand Vitara, which sold 9,021 units last month. Celerio fell 24% year-on-year and 4% month-on-month, respectively. It was followed by the Alto (8,546 units), Celerio (3,181 units) and XL6 (2,740 units).

The sales list also includes Ignis (2,464 units), S Presso (2,102 units), Ciaz (707 units), Jimny (592 units) and Invicto (1,764 units). Among them, the sales of Ignis showed an upward trend both year-on-year and month-on-month, while the sales of S Presso, Ciaz and Invicto decreased year-on-year.
