Maruti Suzuki becomes first Indian OEM to cross 2 million units in sales

Maruti Suzuki is the first Indian car manufacturer to reach 2 million units in production in a single calendar year. This is also the first Suzuki Motor Corporation subsidiary to achieve this milestone. The 2 millionth car is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV, produced at the Manesar plant in Haryana. Models such as the Baleno, Fronx, Wagon R and Brezza are key contributors to this achievement in 2024.

The company operates three manufacturing plants: two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). The plants have a combined annual production capacity of 2.35 million vehicles, with plans to increase that to 4 million vehicles. The new plant in Harkhoda, Haryana will be operational by 2025 and will produce an additional 250,000 vehicles per year.

Maruti Suzuki is also looking for a location to build a plant with an annual production capacity of 1 million vehicles. These expansions are aimed at meeting the growing demand and strengthening the company’s presence in the Indian automotive market. Maruti Suzuki continues to play a leadership role in the industry with its volume growth strategy.

Maruti Suzuki November sales report

Maruti Suzuki reported a 10% year-on-year sales growth in November 2024, with total sales rising to 1.81 lakh units from 1.64 lakh units in November 2023. Domestic passenger car sales increased 5% to 141,000 units, up from 141,000 units in November 2023. There were 100,000 units in the same period last year. However, the subcompact car segment, which includes models such as the Alto and S-Presso, declined slightly, with sales falling from 9,959 to 9,750 units.

Exports increased 25% year-on-year, with shipments in November 2024 reaching 28,633 units, up from 22,950 units in November 2023. This growth reflects the company’s focus on expanding international market share and meeting demand in key regions.
