Maruti Suzuki’s annual production crosses 2 million unit mark

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the 2 millionth unit to roll off the production line

Maruti Suzuki became the first Indian automobile manufacturer to produce more than 2 million units in a single calendar year, which is a historic milestone for the Indian automobile industry. The landmark 2 millionth vehicle Ertiga rolled off the assembly line at the company’s Manesar plant, marking a major achievement for the carmaker.

Maruti Suzuki’s achievement is also a first in Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global network of vehicle manufacturing plants, underscoring India’s key role in the company’s global operations.

The company said that of the 2 million vehicles produced in 2024, 60% will be produced at the Haryana plant, while the remaining 40% will come from the Gujarat plant. Popular models such as Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR and Brezza were among the top five produced during the year, reflecting strong consumer demand in various segments.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki operates three manufacturing plants in India with a combined annual production capacity of 2.35 million vehicles. To meet growing demand and prepare for future growth, the company is undergoing a major expansion. The new plant in Harkoda, Haryana is expected to be operational by 2025. Once fully operational, the plant’s annual production capacity will increase by 1 million units. In addition, Maruti Suzuki also plans to set up another factory with similar production capacity, thereby further increasing its total annual production to 4 million units in the next few years.

The milestone comes at a time when the Indian automotive industry continues to grow, driven by rising demand for passenger vehicles and continued investments in infrastructure and manufacturing. Maruti Suzuki’s achievements not only highlight its strong market presence but also the increasing capacity and efficiency of the Indian automotive manufacturing ecosystem.

The company’s expansion plans are aimed at meeting growing domestic demand while reinforcing its position as a leader in the global automotive market. With the addition of new facilities and increased production capacity, Maruti Suzuki is all set to continue its growth trajectory in the coming years.
