Designed by Ferrari, this engine powers some of the brand’s most famous models. This powerful engine is used in the Quattroporte, Levante and Ghibli, and its 580 horsepower provides impressive performance. The last model to showcase this engine is the Quattroporte Grand Finale, a custom model built for an American collector.
Engine Options and Model History
Throughout their production run, the Quattroporte, Levante and Ghibli were also offered with a variety of other engine options. In addition to the V8, these models could also be equipped with a V6 engine, while at different times in their history, the Levante and Ghibli were offered with four-cylinder engines and even diesel versions. This variety allowed Maserati to meet a wide range of customer preferences and requirements.
Current lineup and future direction
Maserati’s current model lineup focuses on three core models: the GranTurismo, Grecale SUV and MC20 supercar. This streamlined lineup reflects the company’s shift toward new technologies and designs.
Maserati is going through a major transformation, with its Folgore BEV (battery electric vehicle) program moving towards electrification. The company said the GranTurismo and GranCabrio are available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and BEV versions. Meanwhile, the Grecale SUV offers ICE, mild hybrid and BEV options. This approach allows Maserati to offer a variety of options to suit different driving needs and preferences.
Maserati also announced that new successors to the Quattroporte and Levante are under development, demonstrating that, as the iconic V8 engine is retired, Maserati is committed to improving its product line-up with innovative new models that are in line with the brand’s future direction and sustainability goals.
