- Mazda has launched the EZ-6 in China, which is the spiritual successor of the Mazda6.
- This model uses an electric range-extended power system with a power of up to 255 horsepower.
- The EZ-6 is well equipped and has a range of more than 373 miles in the all-electric version.
When Mazda unveiled the EZ-6 at the Beijing Auto Show, they were frustratingly vague. They’re now filling the void by releasing detailed pricing and device information, along with specs.
Described as an “elegant, smart and fun new electric flagship”, the EZ-6 features a streamlined Kobo design with a wide grille flanked by LED headlights. They are connected by frameless doors with flush-mounted handles.
Other highlights include a panoramic glass roof and aerodynamically optimized 19-inch wheels. Buyers will also find rain-sensing wipers and slim taillights connected by a slim light strip. High-end models go a step further, offering an active rear spoiler and a power tailgate. Mazda also mentions an external voice command feature that can be used to open the tailgate.

In terms of dimensions, the EZ-6 is 193.7 inches (4921 mm) long and has a wheelbase spanning 114 inches (2895 mm). To put that in perspective, the model is 0.2 inches (5 mm) longer than the Toyota Camry, but the wheels are 2.8 inches (71 mm) further apart.
Heading inside, there’s a minimalist cabin with a 10.1-inch digital instrument panel and a floating 14.6-inch infotainment system. Buyers will also find leather or Nappa leather seats and a matching steering wheel. Other highlights include dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker sound system and a 50w wireless smartphone charger.
High-end models are more luxurious as they come with heated steering wheels and heated and ventilated front seats. Customers will also find a 64-color ambient lighting system and a 14-speaker Sony premium sound system.
While Mazda initially said the EZ-6 would be available with electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, the model actually has electric and extended-range options. The electric car has a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 255 hp (190 kW / 258 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque. It is powered by a 56.1 kWh or 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The former has a CLTC range of 298 miles (480 km), while the latter increases that distance to over 373 miles (600 km).
The extended-range model goes in a different direction, with a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 94 hp (70 kW) that charges the battery, and an electric motor producing 215 hp (160 kW / 218 hp) and 236 lbs of torque-ft (320 Nm) of torque driving the rear wheels. Customers will also find 18.9 or 28.4 kWh battery packs.
The smaller of the two batteries provides 65 miles (105 kilometers) of all-electric range, while the larger battery increases range to 99 miles (160 kilometers). What’s more, thanks to this engine, the total range is over 808 miles (1,300 kilometers).
Pricing for the extended-range version starts at 139,800 yen (about $19,600 at current exchange rates), while the electric version starts at 159,800 yen ($22,427).
