— Mazda has recalled the CX-70 and CX-90 SUVs, involving more than 150,000 vehicles, over different issues.
In the first recall, 2024-2025 Mazda CX-90 and 2025 Mazda CX-70 SUVs may experience issues with the defroster and seat belt warning lights.
Software programming issues with the dashboard power supply may cause errors when starting the vehicle. Multiple warning messages will be displayed in the instrument panel, and the defroster, seat belt warning and 360° view monitoring functions may be disabled.
Mazda also said the engine warning light may come on and the hybrid high-voltage battery cooling system may not function properly.
According to Mazda, there have been no reports of collisions or injuries.
Mazda CX-70 and Mazda CX-90 owners will receive recall letters in the mail, but the automakers have not said when they will be mailed.
Mazda owners can call 800-222-5500.
The second recall also involves the 2024-2025 Mazda CX-90 and the 2025 Mazda CX-70 SUV.
Mazda divides its vehicles into plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and mild hybrid electric vehicles.
On plug-in hybrid vehicles, there may be a loss of motor power in EV mode due to a software issue in the inverter that may activate fail-safe mode.
When the vehicle loses power, the driver will see a warning light and hear a warning sound.
The fix is a software update to the inverter.
On mild hybrid vehicles, the engine may not restart while idling in automatic engine stop (i-stop). The driver will see an engine warning light and a “Hybrid System Failure” message will appear. In addition, the warning sound may cause the engine to stall.
The fix is a software update to the powertrain control module and battery energy control module.
Another issue involves all vehicles with warning lights that may come on when the vehicle loses power. This activates a power-limited fail-safe mode.
The fix is a software update to the powertrain control module and engine control module.
Affected property owners will be notified by email on or before December 30, 2024.
