When you think of armored vehicles, what comes to mind? Probably a large SUV with a 0-60 mph time measured in decades.
American Armor Group has turned that notion on its head with the unveiling of “the world’s fastest armored vehicle,” based on the Lucid Air Sapphire and designed to reshape “preconceptions of what an armored luxury car can be.”

The car certainly does that, as it has a tri-motor all-wheel drive system with 1,234 hp (920 kW / 1,251 PS). This enables the standard model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 1.89 seconds, reach a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h), and have an EPA range of 427 miles (687 km).
The US Armor Group added lightweight bulletproof windows to protect against .44 Magnum bullets, and lightweight composite armor that is “10 times stronger than bulletproof steel but 5 times lighter.”
All in all, the armor adds just 385 pounds (175 kilograms) of weight. That’s about the weight of two passengers, and the company says the model can still reach a top speed of more than 200 mph (322 kph).
In addition to the armor, the vehicle is also equipped with an “impenetrable internet/WiFi security suite” to ensure data is protected from hackers. The company also said that the model has “cutting-edge technology that continuously scans for nearby threats while in transit, gathering intelligence from more than a million sources, including local police and fire scanners.”
Starting at $475,000, it’s nearly double the price of the Air Sapphire. However, customers can add tougher armor to protect against grenades, explosive devices, and high-powered rifles. Customers can also go James Bond-style and get electric door handles, pepper spray, and concealed muzzles.
