The Mercedes E-Class LWB has grown in size over its predecessor, added exterior and interior features and further boosted the luxury quotient
The all-new sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class long wheelbase (LWB) version has been launched in India, marking a major shift in the company’s focus. With the new E-Class LWB, Mercedes further strengthens its commitment to provide Indian luxury car buyers with a solid all-round product, aiming to be the best iteration of the E-Class brand.
Mercedes E-Class LWB released
The company has launched the sixth-generation E-Class in India in three variants: E200, E220d and E450 4MATIC. Prices for the E200 start at Rs 78.50 lakh (excluding taxes), the E220d starts at Rs 81.50 lakh (excluding taxes) and the E450 4Matic starts at Rs 92.50 lakh (excluding taxes). Deliveries of the E200 will begin this week, the E220d from Diwali and the E450 4Matic from November.
The India-spec E-Class LWB is specially designed and developed for our market. India is the only market where the RHD E-Class LWB is sold. It is the best-selling luxury car on sale in India and has retained this crown for a long time. Compared to its direct competitor, the BMW 5 Series LWB, the new E-Class LWB (V214) is priced at Rs 5.60 lakh more.
Audi seems to be gearing up to upgrade the A6 in India, as the spy shots show, and the homologation process is underway. The dimensions of the new E-Class LWB have increased compared to its predecessor. It has a longer wheelbase of 3,094 mm, length of 5,092 mm, width of 1,880 mm and height of 1,493 mm. These added dimensions will make the cabin even more spacious.
The new E-Class LWB retains its majestic appearance while also adding many new elements. Notable exterior highlights include a large chrome front grille, revised LED headlight design, new LED DRLs, wraparound taillights, large doors for easy entry and exit, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels and flush door handles.
Inside, Merc’s super screen layout takes center stage, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel for the driver, a 14.4-inch central main touchscreen unit and a 12.3-inch screen for the passenger, running the third-generation MBUX system with built-in artificial intelligence. Fine materials, leather upholstery, neck bolsters, rear power-reclining seats with adjustable thigh support are all noteworthy elements.
Features and Powertrain
Not to be missed are electric sunshades for the windows and rear side glass, a 730W 17-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system, voice assistant, wireless charging, selfie camera, wireless charging, multi-zone climate control and a large sunroof. The safety and other comfort features of the new E-Class LWB have also been improved, equipped with Level 2+ advanced driver assistance system, blind spot assist system, 8 airbags and a central airbag for the first time.
Mercedes E-Class LWB comes with three engine options for the Indian market. The E200 is equipped with a 2.0L gasoline engine with a peak power of 204 horsepower, a peak torque of 320 Nm, and an acceleration time of 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. The E220d is equipped with a 2.0L diesel engine with a peak power of 197 horsepower and a peak torque of 440 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds.
The top-spec E450 4Matic is powered by a 3.0L V6 petrol engine that develops 381 bhp of peak power and 500 Nm of peak torque. This engine is faster than other engines, with 0-100 km/h acceleration taking just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. All engines are equipped with a 48V hybrid system, with the electric motor delivering 23 hp and 205 Nm.
