Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 becomes the company’s flagship electric SUV – setting a new benchmark in the luxury pure electric vehicle segment
Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 has been launched in India. This is the first electric Maybach from the German automaker and true to its brand, it exudes the epitome of luxury and sophistication. Priced starting at Rs 2.25 crore, excluding taxes; the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 electric SUV has a claimed range of up to 611 km (as per WLTP cycle). Today’s Merc launch follows the launch of the Mercedes EQA and EQB electric SUVs in July this year.
Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 Electric SUV Details
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS has a body length of 5,125 mm, a width of 1,959 mm and a height of 1,721 mm, which makes it very attractive on the road. Its wheelbase is 3,210 mm and the trunk capacity is 440 liters. It uses 21-inch or 22-inch alloys and forged wheels.
As for its design, the two-tone paint scheme, the vertical slats on the front grille, the three-pointed star logo and the chrome Maybach logo are prominently visible on the front fascia, making it distinctive. It also has the unique “EQS” lettering printed on the window frame. Mercedes Digital Lights LED headlights, each with 1 million pixels, light clusters with LED daytime running lights that also serve as turn indicators, taillights connected by an LED light bar, a hood with a prominent character line and a roof spoiler are part of its appearance.
The interior is similar to the regular EQS SUV. Its numerous screens are its highlight, with the Maybach EQS SUV equipped with the MBUX Hyperscreen as well as dual 11.6-inch screens for rear passengers. The MBUX tablet can also be used outside the car. Features also include a 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system, ambient lighting with 64 color LEDs and 13 lighting combinations, and multi-zone climate control.
Interior and safety
The new Mercedes-Maybach EQS is equipped with premium seats with Nappa leather upholstery. The executive seats are equipped with ventilation and massage functions, as well as neck and shoulder heating and calf massage functions.
Mercedes also equipped the new Maybach EQS SUV with a Boss Mode package exclusively for the left rear passenger. The Nappa leather also extends to the steering wheel with the Maybach logo. Interestingly, the steering wheel can be tilted from 2.5 to 10 degrees depending on the speed. It also comes with an auto-leveling, height-adjustable AIRMATIC suspension.
Safety features include a 360-degree surround camera, 11 airbags, including the first centre airbag in the Indian market for rear passengers, which deploys between the front seats in the event of an impact. Safety features are also complemented by Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ABS, EBD and traction control.
As part of the safety equipment, the seat buckles feature chrome edges that illuminate when the passenger has fastened their seatbelts. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV has eco, sport, off-road, and personalized driving modes, as well as an exclusive “Maybach” mode.
Battery Pack, Powertrain and Specs
The top-of-the-line 680 trim of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV comes with a dual-motor setup and 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard. Power and torque are 658 hp and 950 Nm respectively. It is equipped with a 122kWh battery pack and supports 200kW DC fast charging. 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 4.4 seconds and the top speed is 210 km/h.
