The ES5 is powered by MG’s modular scalable platform, also known as Nebula, similar to the MG 4 electric hatchback. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 8 seconds.
MG ES5: Powertrain
Like the MG 4 electric hatchback, the ES5 is based on MG’s modular scalable platform, also known as Nebula. The architecture can accommodate cars with wheelbases up to 3,100 mm and batteries up to 2 meters long. In addition, it can support upcoming vehicles with solid-state batteries, electrical architecture and autonomous driving capabilities.

The ES5 is driven by a rear electric motor with a maximum power of 166 horsepower and a peak torque of 250 Nm. As with the MG 4, it’s unclear whether more powerful variants will also be offered. In China, the SUV will be equipped with an ultra-thin lithium iron phosphate battery pack (manufactured by the SAIC CATL joint venture) in three configurations. According to materials submitted to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the maximum battery capacity is 62.2kWh, and according to CLTC specifications, the maximum cruising range is 525 kilometers.
MG ES5: Appearance, interior and other details
Similar to its sibling, the MG 4, the new ES5 has a simple, modern appearance. It has silver roof rails, Y-shaped taillights, split headlight design and huge lower air intake. Other details include black exterior mirrors, traditional door handles and 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels.
The ES5’s interior is technologically advanced, including a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a digital instrument panel, and a huge touchscreen. It also comes with a panoramic sunroof, pillar-mounted gear selector and wireless phone charger.

The ES5 comes standard with rear-wheel drive and five-link independent rear suspension. It is expected to offer advanced driver assistance and safety technologies.
