MG Majestor vs Nissan X-Trail

MG Majestor is the new flagship SUV that will sit above the Gloster in MG’s India portfolio

In this article, we compare the recently unveiled MG Majestor and Nissan X-Trail based on specs, features, design, and more. MG has been expanding its India portfolio. Although its main focus is on electric vehicles, it has even ventured into the high-end luxury SUV category with the Gloster. Interestingly, the Majestor will even sit above the Gloster we have on the market. It is based on the D90 Max sold in Saudi Arabia. So we can take a look at the features it will offer. On the other hand, Nissan X-Trail is a CBU SUV that Japanese car vans have been introduced in India to enhance their brand image. Let’s take a look at a thorough comparison between the two large SUVs to help you choose the better alternative for you.

MG Majestor vs Nissan X-Trail – Specs

Since the MG Majestor has not been officially launched in India, we are not sure what will power it. However, there are enough news reports surfacing on the internet from reliable sources that say it will share powertrain options with the Gloster. Therefore, we will witness the familiar 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing maximum power and torque of 218 PS and 480 Nm respectively. Note that in Gloster it’s also available in low profile at 163 ps and 375 nm. Performing gearbox duties will be a sporty 8-speed automatic transmission that will power all four wheels for rugged off-road performance. More details will emerge at the launch event.

The Nissan X-Trail, on the other hand, features a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine with variable compression ratio and 12 V mild-hybrid setup that produces a healthy 163 hp and 300 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. The engine is paired to a line-swapped CVT automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels. Nissan claims the transmission has negligible rubber banding effect typically associated with CVTs. Despite being a small engine, there’s no shortage of performance.

Design and dimensions

Exterior styling is an area where both large SUVs differ completely. The new MG Majestor has more aggressive manners than the X-Trail or Gloster. At the front, the Majestor gets sleek LED DRLs on the extreme edges with slim straps connecting them, a huge rectangular grille area facing down towards the lower end, while the main headlight clusters are impressively Stacked on the edge of extremes. When wet, there is a solid element in the lower part. Moving down the side reveals black side pillars, faux roof rails, huge alloy wheels, chunky wheel arches with matte black material and healthy side steps to enhance entry and exit characteristics. Completing the look is a massive connected LED Taillamp panel that runs the width of the SUV, sporty bumpers, a spoiler on the roof, dual exhaust pipes and a solid skid section at the rear. This will surely attract many potential customers.

On the other hand, the Nissan X-Trail is definitely not as big as the MG Majestor. At the front we are able to integrate the LED DRLs into it by using dark chrome, a sporty bumper, a strong skateboard deck, a striking LED headlight group divided into two parts, a taller LED DRL and a taller one. sub hood etc. On the sides, the SUV carries rugged side skirts, massive wheel arches, faux roof rails, stylish diamond-cut alloy wheels, black side pillars and more. Finally, the rear end contains a wraparound LED Taillamp unit, high-mounted stop lights and an integrated roof spoiler. Overall, the SUV embodies the new-age design theme of Japanese cars and trucks. Interestingly, there are only three color options – Diamond Black, Champagne Silver and Pearl White.

my opinion

Choosing between these two compelling propositions is definitely not easy. However, we have to wait for the official launch of the MG Majestor in India first. It is said to be sold alongside the Gloster. So, the British car money will definitely make it super premium to ensure it deserves to be called a flagship SUV by MG India. On the other hand, the X-Trail continues to attract customers due to the image of the moniker in India. Please keep in mind that older versions are also available on our marketplace. Therefore, people associate it with affordable luxury. Unfortunately, since it is a CBU vehicle, the price is too high for a vehicle of this size. Perhaps, this could be the reason why people consider the bigger and plush MG Majestor. Anyway, let’s wait for the price reveal. You can then visit your nearest MG and Nissan dealership to experience both SUVs in the flesh. This will help you make up your mind.
