MG Motor has been dominating the electric vehicle segment with the launch of its latest electric car, Windsor EV
MG Motor delivered an impressive 201 electric cars in Bengaluru in one day. These include the recently launched Windsor EV, Comet EV and ZS EV. MG’s EV portfolio in India has become strong with all these products contributing to healthy sales figures. In fact, Windsor EV became India’s first passenger electric vehicle, garnering 15,176 bookings within 24 hours of the booking announcement. Not only that, it took the title of the best-selling electric car in the country in its first month on the market. Considering Tata Motors has been holding this title for months, this speaks volumes for its appeal. Perhaps, customers are embracing new, interesting vehicles.
MG Motor delivered 201 electric vehicles in a single day
The visuals in this post from jubilantmotorwoks and mgmotorin on Instagram capture the excitement of this unique occasion. As part of this magic number, 75 MG ZS electric vehicles will be included in the Bengaluru Airport taxi fleet in partnership with Refex Green Mobility. This marks a major shift towards eco-friendly transportation in the country. I believe integrating electric vehicles into public transportation is a critical step towards mass adoption of electric vehicles and working toward carbon neutrality. I’m sure we’ll continue to encounter more of these as we move forward.
The MG Windsor electric car has been able to change the fortunes of the company. The main reason for this is its industry-first BaaS (Battery as a Service) option. Under this model, buyers only pay for the vehicle up front, while leasing the battery on a monthly basis based on usage. For example, Windsor EV charges Rs 3.5 per km. We know that batteries account for 30-40% of the total price of electric vehicles. As a result, customers are able to save significant amounts of money. This is what drives them to take the plunge and opt for these electric cars. Following the huge success, MG has launched similar models for its other two electric cars.
my opinion
The electric vehicle segment in India is growing rapidly. Over the past few years, people have had more choices in models from different car manufacturers. In fact, we just launched two new electric cars from Mahindra. Clearly, the future is electric and there will be more and more options for people to start their electric journey. At the same time, challenges related to charging infrastructure also need to be addressed. Stay tuned for more details on this.
