MG Windsor EV launched in India at Rs 9.99 lakh; comes with Aero

MG Motor India has expanded its presence in the growing electric vehicle market and entered the CUV segment with the launch of its first all-electric MPV, the Windsor EV. The EV is available on a Battery as a Service (BaaS) model, similar to a subscription model for battery packs. The Windsor is priced starting at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) while customers will have to pay Rs 3.5 per km for the battery pack under the BaaS leasing plan. The model is available in three variants and four colour options. The car also offers a spacious and comfortable interior with premium materials. Bookings for the car will start from October 3 and deliveries will commence from October 12. With the launch of the Windsor EV, the British automaker aims to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in India and provide a more sustainable transport option.

MG Windsor EV: styling cues

The new Windsor EV is actually a rebadged version of the Wuling Yun EV, which is available in multiple markets around the world. The former follows the Aero Glide design language. As expected, the Windsor EV looks exactly like the Wuling EV and shares many design elements such as full-width light bars at the front and rear, illuminated MG logos, flush door handles, wide raked windshield with a short hood, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and vertically stacked headlamps.

MG Windsor EV: Battery specifications

Mechanically, the MG Windsor EV is equipped with a 38kWh prismatic lithium-ion battery. The manufacturer says that the innovative battery management system enhances the performance of the EV. The unit produces a maximum power of 134bhp and a peak torque of 220Nm. The car can travel 331 km on a single charge. The model comes with a 3-year unlimited kilometre warranty, 3-year 24×7 roadside assistance and 3-year zero labour charge scheduled servicing. Apart from this, the EV’s battery also comes with a lifetime warranty.

Equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, apps like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and JioSaavn, the MG Windsor EV has the largest infotainment system in its segment at 15.6 inches. It also has a comprehensive 360-degree surround-view camera system, a-9 speaker sound system, four-way electrically adjustable passenger seats, connected car technology, rear air-conditioning vents, 3-passenger rear seats with three-point seatbelts and adjustable headrests, wireless charging, and rear seats that can recline up to 135 degrees (called aviation lounge seats). Notably, the Windsor is the first mass-market car to get a glass roof. Other features include 256 multi-color LED ambient lights and a leather-wrapped double-spoke steering wheel. The boot space is 604 litres.

MG Windsor EV: Safety features

MG models are known for being equipped with a host of cutting-edge technology features that help enhance the active and passive safety of these cars. The safety kit on the electric cars includes ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Hill Start Assist, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite which includes features like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Auto Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning.

With this launch, MG India’s electric vehicle range will include three promising models: ZS EV, Comet EV and Windsor EV.
