Windsor EV has become the best-selling MG car in India, accounting for more than 50% of total sales
The Windsor EV launched last year has proven to be a gold mine for MG Motor. It is affordable and comes with an industry-first BaaS (Battery as a Service) ownership option. While Windsor EV contributes to the brand’s overall sales, it also helps MG increase its market share in the electric field.
MG Windsor Price Increase (Full Purchase Price Option)
Only about four months have passed since the launch of Windsor EV. Prices have now increased, indicating that the original introductory pricing offer no longer applies. The Windsor EV is available in 3 variants, all of which have seen a price hike of Rs 50,000. The base model ‘Excite’ is now available with prices starting at Rs 14 lakh. The mid-spec ‘Exclusive’ variant is now priced at Rs 15 lakh. The price of the top-spec ‘Essence’ variant of Windsor EV has been revised to Rs 16 lakh.
Although prices have increased under the outright purchase option, this is unlikely to have any significant impact on sales. The Windsor EV is well-equipped and comes in a price range of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 16 lakh after the update. MG offers a lifetime warranty to first-time owners, which is very beneficial for buyers.
Windsor electric vehicle buyers don’t have to worry about issues like battery issues and battery replacement costs. Early buyers can also enjoy free charging services at MG public charging stations for a full year. This ensures further savings for Windsor electric vehicle owners. Another guarantee is a 60% buyback after 3 years/45,000km.
BaaS subscription rate increased to Rs 3.9/km
While the ex-showroom price under BaaS remains unchanged, the subscription price has increased by 40 paise per kilometer. The ex-showroom prices under BaaS are Rs 9.99 lakh for Excite, Rs 10.99 lakh for Exclusive and Rs 11.99 lakh for Essence. These prices are the same as under the previous BaaS ownership model. However, the per-km subscription fee has been increased from Rs 3.5 to Rs 3.9. It should be noted that the subscription fee per kilometer is in addition to the charging fee.
It remains to be seen how rising BaaS subscription rates will impact sales. Market reports indicate that a large portion of Windsor’s electric vehicle sales come from the BaaS purchasing model. BaaS systems have proven to be a game changer. MG Motor will certainly be keen to ensure that its BaaS program continues to be seen as the best VFM option in the EV space.
Although the price has increased, the features and specifications have not changed. The MG Windsor EV is equipped with a 38kWh battery pack connected to a permanent magnet synchronous motor. It produces 134 hp and 200 Nm, with power sent to the front wheels. Users can choose between Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes. The Windsor EV has a driving range of 331 kilometers. Charging is very fast using a DC fast charger, and users can charge to 80% in only about 40 minutes.
