MG Windsor EV with battery starts at Rs 1.35 lakh

Even without the unique Battery-as-a-Service (Baas) ownership plan, the MG Windsor EV’s base price of Rs 1.35 lakh (Ex-sh) remains attractive

Earlier this month, MG Motor launched the Windsor EV at an attractive starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh and introduced a BaaS plan, which is a battery leasing service. Today, the company announced the prices of all variants of the Windsor EV, including battery ownership. Like the base model, the higher trims are also available at affordable prices.

MG Windsor EV – Pricing by Model

The MG Windsor EV is available in three variants – Excite, Exclusive and Essence. The base Excite is priced at Rs 13,49,800 (Ex-sh), the mid-range Exclusive is priced at Rs 14,49,800 (Ex-sh) and the top-of-the-line Essence is priced at Rs 15,49,800 (Ex-sh). The above prices include the battery cost and do not charge a rental fee of Rs 3.5 per km under the BaaS plan.

The first owner of the Windsor EV will enjoy a lifetime battery warranty, free charging on public chargers for one year through the eHUB on the MG App, and a 60% guaranteed buyback after 3 years/45,000 kms. Bookings for the MG Windsor EV will begin on October 3, 2024. Buyers can also lease batteries for the Windsor EV at prices starting from Rs 9.99 lakh under the BaaS scheme.

Design and Features

The Windsor EV has a curvaceous profile, which MG calls the AeroGlide design. This unique shape ensures the EV has a striking profile. Exterior highlights include full LED lighting, including LED positioning lights and daytime running lights, a closed grille and an illuminated front MG logo. The side profile looks sporty with the segment-first R18 diamond-cut alloy wheels and smart flush door handles.

The Windsor EV’s B- and C-pillars and door side moldings are painted black. The charging port is located just above the left front fender. At the rear, the Windsor EV features sporty connected LED taillights and a first-in-class glass antenna. The Windsor EV has a best-in-class wheelbase of 2,700 mm, ensuring smooth operation and spacious interior space.

MG Windsor EV is designed to provide users with a premium experience. One of its main features is the first-in-class aviation lounge seat with 135° multi-layer reclining. Users can clearly see the sky above through the first-in-class unlimited view glass roof. There are countless opportunities for new experiences under bright sunshine, drifting clouds, drizzling rain, starry nights and charming moons.

The technology package includes a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the largest in its class. Other key features include a digital driver display, Infinity’s 9-speaker sound system and a first-in-class 256-color ambient lighting. The Windsor EV comes with a wireless smartphone charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, multi-function steering controls and a first-in-class 6-way powered driver’s seat. The MG Windsor EV has the largest luggage space in its class at 604 litres.

MG BaaS Ownership Program

The MG Windsor EV is easily accessible to a wide market with the Battery as a Service (BaaS) service. Apart from the vehicle cost, users will also need to pay a battery rental fee of Rs 3.5 per km. This is similar to a prepaid recharge and users can purchase it for a minimum of 1,500 kms (costing Rs 5,250).

Users will also have to pay for charging, where applicable. But for a select number of initial buyers, MG Motor will offer free fast charging for a full year. The free charging will be done at MG’s charging stations. MG Motor’s BaaS program is a new approach to address the high pricing of electric vehicles.

It seems to have great potential and could be adopted by other EV manufacturers. To give owners complete peace of mind, MG Motor is also offering a lifetime battery warranty for the first owners. If the car is sold, the warranty reverts to the standard 8 years/160,000 km. Windsor EV also offers a 60% guaranteed buyback.
