With Windsor EV, the automaker has launched an industry-first ownership program called BaaS (Battery as a Service). This battery leasing program allows customers to prepay for the electric vehicle or pay through a loan while paying for the battery separately on a lease basis. The company has partnered with four financial institutions for the program – Bajaj Finance Limited, VidyutTech Services Private Limited, Herofin Corp, Ecofy and Autovert Technologies Private Limited. MG’s BaaS program not only reduces the upfront cost of ownership of an electric vehicle but also reduces the running cost over a period of 3 or 5 years, etc. The leasing cost of the MG Windsor EV is Rs 3.5 per km.
The Windsor EV’s powertrain consists of a 38kWh LFP battery and a prismatic battery, with an electric motor mounted on the front axle. The electric motor has a maximum power of 136bhp and a torque of 200Nm. The electric MPV has a range of 331 kilometers and is equipped with four driving modes – Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport.
MG claims that the battery can be charged from 0 to 80% in 55 minutes using a 45kW fast charger. Buyers can also choose to use a 3.3kW or 7.7kW AC charger, which takes about 14 hours and 6.5 hours to fully charge, respectively. The automaker offers a lifetime warranty on the battery for the first owner, a guaranteed 60% buyback after three years, and one year of free charging at public chargers using the eHUB by MG app.
