Michael Jordan Revealed As Owner Of One-Off Pininfarina Battista Targamerica
  • The NBA legend has a net worth of $3.5 billion, so buying a custom Pininfarina Battista won’t put a dent in his bank balance.
  • Jordan asked Pininfarina to install a custom cigar rack and humidor for the car.
  • The four electric motors combine to produce 1,874 horsepower.

During Monterey Car Week in August, Automobili Pininfarina unveiled its first one-off car, called the Battista Targamerica. At the time of its unveiling, the Italian brand said it had been purchased by “a well-known car collector and existing Battista owner”. The man was later revealed to be basketball legend and business tycoon Michael Jordan.

The keys to the custom Batista were handed over to Jordan in the United States earlier this month. The former NBA star has an estimated net worth of $3.5 billion, and he’s exactly the kind of guy who feels free to spend millions on a custom electric supercar.

As you might have guessed from its name, Battista Targamerica is unique in that it has no roof. Of course, this limits its practicality, but it arguably makes it look more eye-catching. In addition to removing the roof, Pininfarina also fabricated a new rear decklid for the car.

The car also looks different from other Pininfarinas. The gorgeous body panels are finished in Liquido Gloss (silver) and trimmed in Iconica Blu Gloss, a color combination inspired by the 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider owned by former Fiat president Gianni Agnelli. A special set of ceramic-polished alloy wheels and black anodized aluminum center caps are also fitted.

Michael Jordan also spared no expense when it came to designing car interiors. Most of the cabin is covered in tan leather upholstery, with some elements finished in the finest black leather. At Jordan’s request, Pininfarina also designed and developed a small cigar rack and humidor located between the seats. It’s made of aluminum and glass and can hold up to three cigars.

Like the standard Battista, the Targamerica features four electric motors producing 1,874 hp and 1,726 lb-ft (2,340 Nm) of torque, allowing it to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 2 seconds.
