Detroit is now the 10th city Issue Michelin Green Guide in the United States. The Detroit version is centered on cultural and holistic travel experiences, and has attracted the city’s most popular visitor experiences, including art, culture, architecture, music, community, entertainment, and more.
Visit Detroit President and CEO Claude Molinari said his team worked with French Public Relations, based in Paris, to make Detroit a Michelin destination. “It’s not just about providing a guide to our city,” Molinari explained. “It’s about knowing that Detroit is ready to be prepared with this level of international recognition.” While Detroit provides financial support to make the guide, Molinari said the content reflects Michelin’s independent assessment of the Motor City.
“Not every destination seeking a Michelin green guide receives one, and Michelin has thoroughly studied each destination,” he explained. “The ranking system is managed by Michelin using its established standards. Our role is to facilitate research by providing accommodation and scheduling the required visits, although (Michelin’s team) also conducted independent explorations.”
The guide describes Detroit as “one of the most fashionable destinations right now.” The 160-page book attractions considered to be unmissable include the Guardian Building, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, Eastern Market, Central Michigan, the Detroit Academy of Arts and the Morton Museum. Detroit International Riverfront, exquisite restaurants, Whitney-Desai, the city’s complex and colorful murals, and two theaters – the Fox Theater and Fisher Theater, represent Michelin’s other top choices in the city.
“It’s more than just a guide,” Molinari said. “This is the stamp for Detroit to become a world-class destination worth exploring.” The English version of the guide is currently only available on Amazon, although Detroit says it is working to deliver the book to local retailers’ shelves.
