MINI Cooper SE recalled over battery fire risk

15,000 MINI Cooper SE vehicles recalled due to reports of battery thermal events.

— The MINI Cooper SE Electric Hardtop 2-Door recall involves more than 15,000 vehicles that are at risk for battery and fire issues.

The recalled vehicles include MINI Hardtop 2 Door (Cooper SE) vehicles from 2020 to 2024, which may have a fault in the high-voltage battery or high-voltage system.

This could cause a short circuit and fire.

MINI Cooper SE drivers should see a warning light if something is wrong, even if the MINI is not running, a “thermal event” may occur.

Nearly 2,600 MINI Cooper SE vehicles are being recalled in Canada.

The MINI Cooper SE recall letter should be mailed by October 7, 2024, at which time dealers will update the software, which includes a diagnostic function that can detect a high-voltage battery fault and discharge the battery (below 30% state of charge, high-voltage battery emergency mode).

MINI Cooper SE owners may call 866-275-6464.
