The automaker said Ram 1500 models were equipped with ABS module software that could disable ESC between Oct. 31, 2017 and Feb. 14, 2024. The module comes from Continental, and while the company didn’t say how the ABS could cause ESC to fail, it noted the vehicles violated federal motor vehicle safety standards that require ESC to “operate properly during all phases of driving, including acceleration, coasting, and deceleration.”

A total of 1,227,808 Ram 1500 models produced in 2019 and 2021-2024 are affected. Stellantis was notified of the potential issue on February 15, 2024, and analyzed ABS control module warranty data, field reports, and customer assistance records between March and April. The internal technical safety and regulatory compliance organization then met with FCA U.S. engineering and manufacturing to review the issue.
The recall was made on August 30, and dealers will be notified on September 12. The ABS control module software in the affected vehicles will be updated to correct the malfunction.
The recall also affects 7,299 Mopar ABS modules that are used as replacement parts. In addition, approximately 250,000 Ram 1500 models sold outside the United States are also affected by the recall and require a software update.
