Although plane tickets are cheaper, exploring the world in your own car seems more exciting and freeing
Although challenges remain, more and more people are turning to electric vehicles. In November 2024, the electric vehicle segment achieved double-digit year-on-year growth of 14.58%. Charging infrastructure is being continuously upgraded with the active participation of private and public sector companies.
Ride MG ZS EV from Mumbai to Delhi
A better understanding of ground reality can only be gained through a long road trip. This is exactly what Priyans Murarka has been doing for the past few years. Murarka is passionate about documenting the experience of driving an electric car in India and sharing it with other electric car owners. His most recent trip was from Mumbai to Delhi. Murarka provides detailed information about the entire trip, including availability of charging stations, homestays offering charging options, route information, hotels, charging fees, tolls, and more.

Route taken – Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME)
In his earlier travels, Mulaka had taken the Vadodara and Udaipur routes. Since 2022, he has completed all his journeys via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME). While there are many charging options on the Vadodara-Udaipur route, the driving experience is better on DME. The DME is still an ongoing project, with approximately 600 kilometers of it already open to traffic. About 700-800 kilometers are currently under development.
The route of this trip includes Nashik, Dhule, Ratlam, Kota, Dausa and finally Delhi. There are a large number of charging stations on the Mumbai to Nashik route, including an Airbnb with electric vehicle charging facilities. On the Nashik to Ratlam stretch, charging options are available at Dhule, Julwaniya, Dhar and Ratlam. There are relatively few night-time slow chargers on the Ratlam-Kota stretch. However, affordable accommodation options are readily available. On the Kota-Dausa route, the charging points available are about 10 kilometers away from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

Charging station failure experience
On paper, one might see that the charging stations are easy to use. However, not all charging stations shown are in working order during the actual journey. This means EV owners should have a backup plan ready. Based on his experience, Murarka shared all the details of working and non-working EV charging stations. He also shared the locations of various charging stations. Several companies operate charging stations along the Mumbai-Delhi route. Including ChargeZone, BPCL, HPCL, EV Pump, JioBP, Tata, etc.
Mumbai-Delhi trip cost
Murarka drove a total of 1,468 kilometers in the MG ZS EV during her recent Mumbai-Delhi trip. With a two-night stay, the overall trip was relatively relaxing and stress-free. The total toll is Rs 3,519 while the toll is Rs 2,514. A total of 217 kWh of energy was consumed during the journey. The running cost is Rs 2.4 per km. However, other expenses such as food, accommodation, etc. are not mentioned. EV owners planning a similar trip can get more details on Murarka’s blog.
