Musk hates government spending, but Tesla and Space X take up

As Musk’s Governor made in-depth cuts to various federal forces, information was released

Musk hates government spending, but Tesla and SpaceX collect nearly $40 billion in taxpayer funding
  • The Washington Post said SpaceX and Tesla have received billions of dollars in government funding over the years.
  • It points to a real and obvious conflict of interest between this and Elon Musk’s current real role in government.

Over the past two decades, the company led by Elon Musk has received at least $38 billion in government funding. That’s the harvest of new headlines Washington Post Features, which highlights “how government infusions at critical moments can help Tesla and Spacex thrive.”

The details are clear. These brands and Musk himself, without such support, may not be where they are today. At the same time, none of this should surprise anyone.

This work outlines how Elon Musk’s brand has benefited a lot over the years. Sometimes, if there is no government funding in the form of loans, subsidies, contracts, or tax credits, the advice may either fail. Musk reportedly used several different institutions, including EPA, NASA and others, to keep cash flowing. Of course, it is also clear that over the past five years, it is expected to be nearly two-thirds of Tesla and SpaceX’s $38 billion, most Under Biden’s management.

Of course, it is also worth noting in all of these aspects that Musk’s company’s use of government plans is completely legal and exceeds the board of directors. People seem dissatisfied that Musk will be willing to call on government overspending and some reckless cuts in federal agencies’ jobs and positions while accepting funding. These same people don’t seem to understand that these two things are not mutually exclusive.

In fact, regardless of political inclinations, the U.S. government distributes funds to a wide variety of auto companies every year. In 2024, it gave Ford a $9.6 billion loan (more than last year’s Tesla and Space X loans) to build an electric electric motor plant. The Michigan government itself cut $7 billion on GM in 2022, and we haven’t even discussed cash during the 2008 financial crisis.

Strangely, the piece also summons Tesla’s profits, which are earned due to sales regulatory credits, because it meets or exceeds certain standards, thus being able to do so. In fact, to go a step further, it can only sell these points because other automakers cannot meet the same standards.

If anything, this could be seen as a proof that Musk truly believes in his work (due to personal interests), that according to Wapo, he “tryes to cut employees, cut budgets or sign contracts in all seven institutions where Musk’s company continues contracts.”

Ultimately, it is clear that there are real tangible issues surrounding conflicts of interest and hypocrisy. Musk is reportedly the one who decides where these conflicts are and then withdraws his own dealings with activities in Doge.

Frankly, however, conflicts of interest and hypocrisy have always been the main characteristics of every government. Regardless of his intentions, desires, or future actions, the whole situation does prove that the scenery can change rapidly. Perhaps this is more obvious than the political landscape.
